Almost 7 weeks post op, SEX and gardening...

Well, I went back to work on Wednesday, and dinners after.. so long days this week, and was tired.. back was abit sore from 'being on feet' ( I am a teacher). Last night was, well, I am not a Hyster Syster Virgin anymore.. lol. I was not sure, but had gone to Dr. on Monday, and asked if I could treadmill and walk... after internal, he said, 'You can do everything'. No follow-up, so I guess I got the 'all clear'... lol. So, last night, took it slow and was so worried about spotting or such. I thought I saw a tiny speck of blood- was so paranoid, even showed husband, he rolled eyes... but no spotting at all, no pain or aftermath. This morning, I went for my first REAL walk, w/ headphones... about 35 minutes in neighborhood, not too fast--nothing like I would of in the past, used slower songs. I felt it abit. Came home and got some flowers... 2 hanging plants and dug to small little milkweeds that had grown in lawn, w/ a small spade. Put them in my garden. NOT a hole, or HUGE plants. Organized my garden abit, MY MOTHER got very upset w/ me.. said too early. I did not overdo... and guess I was on an adrenaline rush. Hubby was outside, and he said I was fine. I have taken it easy the rest of this day, and will NOT overdo, but guess I took my new body for a test drive.... I have been active, and Tuesday will be officially my 7 week mark, so 2 days. I guess we worry so much and don't want to mess anything up.. healing wise. I see so many jogging at this point. I have no dreams to do that... although I was a on/off runner.... but walking and slight gardening... hope that is ok?! I only have one more day of work-- summer vacation, timed my surgery the right way, so I only had to go back 4 days, after my 6 week mark. I would love to hear of other's activity levels, and what we can do..... I am not out to lift, pull, etc. I just did some bending to do my garden stuff.... no pressure, more a squat.... if that makes sense. like shaving legs! LOL

Yea, you! I loved how you put it as no longer a Hyster Sister Virgin as that's exactly how I felt the first time post-op. (I posted about that in our week post) How are you feeling today after all that activity? Yesterday morning I did some housework (including vacuuming) and felt the tugging and soreness in my belly in the afternoon and yet today. I hope you are feeling fine.

If you feel fine, then don't worry about it. Just like during your recovery, let your body guide you. If you are sore a day or so later, you will know to let your body heal a bit more before doing it again. The only thing I would really watch is the lifting. Increase that gradually. For me, it was 6 and half months post-op before I could lift anything I wanted without some kind of repercussions (soreness or twinges). Happy healing!

Great... I am not lifting--- the walking was just walking, w/ headphones, so abit nicer :O) I transplanted 2 milkweeds that were growing my my' yard', very small, used a spade.. and put them in my garden... enough for me :O) Yes, will take it slow... I will remember it has only been 7 weeks! Thank you!!!

Re: Almost 7 weeks post op, SEX and gardening...

Newmie63, I am a teacher too. I hope to return to school for the 2 workdays at the end of the year. I'm beginning week 3 and feel pretty good. I feel that tugging feeling in my tummy now, so you still have that at 7 weeks some? Not lost my stitches yet. I have been walking a lot, but not as far as preop. Looking forward to planting some flowers and pulling weeds. It is hard to "not" do things when you are a busy person. I am also glad you shared that "everything" seemed to be going well. Enjoy your summer and I hope you continue to feel better!

Re: Almost 7 weeks post op, SEX and gardening...

Melissa, I went back for the last 3 days w/ kids... 1st grade.. it was abit taxing.... they are active.. but I am glad I did.... as far as the tugging, I always felt it was 'healing' pulling together... or a 'tired' feeling. I have it a little, but only when I think about it! LOL> I am not Weeding, or pulling, but did find a couple 'volunteers' or milkweeds that grew in lawn, were about 1 foot tall, and I had to dig them up... not deep roots, so I was not pulling a turnip.. hehe.... I am doing great..... my dr. saw me at 6 weeks, and the office told me to call them, if I need... otherwise, he is not requesting to see me.

Re: Almost 7 weeks post op, SEX and gardening...

Hey, teachers....I'm curious as to what grades you teach and what did you tell your students as to being gone for so long. I'm not a regular teacher but I do teach 3/4 grade Sunday School and missed 2 weeks. With that I didn't have to really say anything to them. I can't remember if I told them I had surgery or not much less what kind. I did tell them the week before that I would be gone for the next 2 Sundays and be good for the sub.

Along with being a teacher, do you think the grade level makes a difference in when you feel able to go back to work. I can't imagine going back to a preschool or kindergarten class at 5 weeks much less 2. You tend to be more physical with that age group. I babysit my 3 yr old grandson and just took him back "full time" at 6 weeks.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post but when I saw that 2 of you were teachers it made me think of this question.

I teach 1st grade.. was gone 6 weeks.... told kids I had a boo boo in belly and dr. was going to make me better... I did not go back until 6 wk. dr. release, and was able to get hugs w/ no hurt, and they were careful.... was a bit tiring.. they were ready for end of the year.. hyper and fun stuff, but all in all... I was fine... and they were , too.

Re: Almost 7 weeks post op, SEX and gardening...

I think that it is stressful, no matter the age, but the younger ones are probably more taxing. I teach 2nd and they are very energetic. I told them I was going to have surgery but it wasn't anything bad, I just needed to rest for several weeks.
One little boy who never listens (I have to repeat directions to him several times daily) says, "So what's wrong with your leg?" I told him it was fine....LOL They didn't ask any questions other than that. I miss them but I am glad to be off.
