Hi, try to place a pillow over your abdomen and give youself a hug when you cough. Do you have a respiratory infection? Call your doctor to see what type of cough medicine you can take or if they want to see you. Pneumonia can be a complication of surgery. Feel better.

I ended up sick with a cough as well right after surgery. The pharmacist recommended Delsym. It didn't help that day, but the cough was gone the next! Good luck!

The coughing is about driving me nuts. It's been 8 days since my surgery and it seems like I am coughing more than I did after surgery. When I do cough, oh my gosh! it about knocks me over with pain; it feels like my insides are being snapped. I have been drinking lots of lemon water and sucking on lemon drops (seems to help). I don't have any congestion..Thank God! Don't want to get sick now. I am feeling a little better today than yesterday; however, I am running out of pain meds and hoping the pain will subside here soon. I have zero pain tolerance and I think my doc is starting to realize how big of a baby I can be.

I had my TAH 2-10. 2 days before I went in I started w/ cold symptoms. I have been coughing ever since. I think I finally am geting a little better where I only cough my brains out in the morning when I get up for about an hour or 2. The pillow thing does not help, although I still try. I push the pillow in and hold on for dear life, cause YES... it hurts. I feel like I have coughed myself 2 hernias on either side of my abdomen. I am still very sore in my belly after 2 weeks and not sure if this is normal. I am not on any pain meds but OUCH when I turn wrong or strain even a little. I keep sucking on drops and took Mucinex. It did help to break it up, but then you have to cough hard to "get" it up.
