3 days liquid diet before TAH !

I have been checking all posts and it seems I am the only one who needs to go on a 3 days clear liquid diet before surgery. I was given the instructions in writing, so no doubts here.

Any suggestions?

3 days? I'm guessing the Dr has reasons. One thing i've learned on here is, if you've got questions about your Dr's directions, ask him/her.

That's a long time. Be sure to take enough in---broth, juice, jello--so you don't end up hungry and dehydrated. Good luck.

If you start getting jittery or irritable, back off on the sugary liquids and switch to broth & water for a bit.

i had to do 2 full days before surgery and i thought that was long... good luck to you...

thats kind of harsh, 3 day liquids, I kept my meals light but not liquids. I think if you make yourself so weak before the surgery you will be realy weak afterwards to try to keep up your energy to heal. I dont know Id probly ask why is it so important? cause everyone has a hard time at first with there BM, or lots of liquids in the system for dehydration. thats a tough one?????

I did that also and I was so jittery by the morning of surgery I couldn't wait to get it over with ...My onco said he wanted clearer than clear because he "ran" the bowel also when he did the pelvic wash and lymph node excision. It took a LONG while after surgery for things to settle back to position but knowing he was careful in his exam made it worthwhile. With my case being endo ca, colon cancer can be a thing to watch for too. I did lose weight before and afer but now its all back and rearranged...good luck kiddo

I am not very keen on the sugary drinks (cordial , lemonade, lucozade) but will have jello, lemon ice blocks and add some sugar to my tea and coffee + lots of water.

The most appealing item on the list is chicken noodle soup
(strained of course). Will make the effort to cook a big pot!

I had to do that 2 days before, also was on liquid diet for following day too. Was so hungry by the time I could eat. May I suggest flax seed muffins when you can eat. Really helps with constipation issue after.
