Novasure - Complications

On November 18, 2011 I had a D&C, Hysteroscopy and Ablation (Novasure). Here's my experiences/concerns because I am a bit freaked out at the moment and hope someone could give me some insight.

Pre-op (Tuesday): Uneventful.

Surgery day (Friday): Everything was apparently successful, however, the pain was so nasty that they gave me a couple Percocet, then something that started with an "L" and then Morphine. After being there almost 3 hours over I was supposed to in recovery I just told them to let me go home. I took pain killers that night and just sacked out on the couch.

Day after surgery (Saturday): I actually felt ok. A little fatigued, but not bad. Went to see a movie and had dinner out. Very low key.

Two days after surgery (Sunday): I woke up in such pain that I was having convulsions. I took a Percocet, went back to sleep and it was tolerable for a little while, but by that evening I was feeling so sick I could not even talk to my son that night when he called to let me know he made it home ok. (He lives 8 hours away and came to see me Sat/Sun for an early Thanksgiving)

Three/Four days after surgery (Monday/Tuesday): Battled lots of blood, pain and low grade fevers. Had to have the air conditioning on at home so that I could stop sweating.

Five days after surgery (Wednesday): No fever, but lots of pain and blood. Not even discharge, just blood (enough to tint the water red). I called my doctor who sent me to the ER and found that I had Endometritis. They dosed me up with a monster antibiotic and pain medicine through the IV and then sent me home to take two different antibiotics and more Percocet for the pain with instructions to see my doctor the following Monday since it was the holiday. Still felt nasty, but it got a bit better each day with the antibiotics.

Ten days after surgery (Monday): Saw my doctor. Pain is a little better, fever is gone, finally just a dark discharge, but still tender on the right side causing pain. But, she felt that the infection was resolving and to call her if anything was to change.

Twelve days after surgery (Wednesday): I'm back to increased blood, pain enough to take a Percocet at work (Yikes...) and nauseous.

Now I'm just getting worried.. What if the infection was not totally alleviated? What if they need to do something else? What if it gets bad enough to need a hysterectomy? I'm starting menopause, too, so I'm not sure how that will interfere or what.

To be honest, I hate calling doctors back when I think I might have a problem because I don't want them looking at me like I'm a hypochondriac, but I know I still don't feel right and it has been almost 2 weeks.

I don't want a hysterectomy because I don't want the hormones and stuff that goes along with it. I just want to feel normal. That's why I tried the Novasure.

It's very frustrating. Has anyone else had this much trouble with this procedure?

Re: Novasure - Complications

I'm sorry you're having problems that bring you here but hope you'll find information that is helpful.

Whilst you're waiting for any replies, you may wish to visit a dedicated endometrial ablation discussion board <link> www.endometrialablationboard.yuku.com for indepth post-op support and experiences, but be sure to keep in close contact with your doctor, too.

I'm sending positive thoughts!

Re: Novasure - Complications

Hello BitoLuck,

Just wanted to respond and tell you that I am not having a great experience post Novasure either.

I had my ablation 3 weeks ago. I did fine for the first 9 days. Then on the 10th day, my left ovary began to hurt and then got horrible cramps. I NEVER had cramps before...just bleeding. Then, the cramps went to my back (like back labor) and down the backs of my legs. The Dr. gave me Celebrex which helped, but I'm not supposed to take that all the time because I have kidney issues. The pain got better, but I have had bleeding ever since. Now I have the pain in my back and legs again.

I went to see him @ the 2 week mark, and he said it seemed like a had a cyst that ruptured, and he did an U/S that showed fluid around my ovary. He also said I might have some endometriosis based on how I described my pain. I never had endo BEFORE the surgery though so this makes no sense!!

I have another appt. with him next week. I'm really discouraged and wishing I had not done the surgery.

I hope that your infection gets better and that you can get help from there.
Best,
Faith A
