6 days post hysterectomy 11/18: Can't poop - UPDATED 11/24

It Took me five days to go with the help of Ducalax, stool softeners and mirallax but it did finally happen.

I also had a total hysterectomy done 11/18/15. I have been taking stool softeners since the day I had the procedure. But the trick: A GLASS OF WARM PRUNE JUICE! On post op day 4, I had not pooped yet and I was starting to feel "full." I warmed up about 8oz of prune juice and the flood gates opened about an hour later! It was very watery, but now my stool is firm but soft. I drink one glass of warm prune juice every morning. Plus the stool softener. Magic!

I might try this tomorrow afternoon if It hasn't happened by then. Thanks for the tip!

It also helps to put your feet on something while you are sitting on the toilet. Get yours knees up above your pelvis so you are almost in a squatting position. This helps re-position the rectum so things will move out better.

Yes, I've have digestive issues pre-hyst so I've been using a small step stool for a few years and it definitely helps.

I'm nervous about going. My surgery was on the 24th. I've been taking stool softeners since I got out of the hospital in anticipation. I also got a squatty potty which is the best. It really helps with the gas so I'm hoping it will also help when the time finally comes to go. Haven't really been eating enough to need to go yet.

The stool softener wasn't enough for me and neither was the prune juice. I had to use a glycerin suppository yesterday at 6 days post op. So happy to be on the other side of that hurdle!

Never in my life id I ever think that I would be having problems going phoo. My surgery was November 20th total hysterectomy , and like most of you ladies I have done everything under the sun I even prayed to go and may it not hurt so much.
Thankfully with the guidance of a close cousin of mine who also had a hysterectomy several years ago I followed her advice got some stool softener and since I hate prune juice I bought prunes, along with orange juice.
I was so relieved when I finally went, but I still battle with going the dr. called in an rx for miralax took it this morning hoping for the best .
