Vaginal cuff with LAVH

Hi (again)

I have read a number of posts about having a vaginal cuff and this was something that I didn't discuss with my doctor. My doc knows me well enough to know that I just want to go in, get it done and that I'm not the type of person who wants to know everything ahead of time (or else I panic and would probably cancel)

However, I am curious about a vaginal cuff.....What is it and does everyone who has a LAVH have one???? Can you feel it?????

Vaginal cuff with LAVH

Hi Kat. The cuff is where the uterus and cervix is seperated from the vagina and is closed with disolving sutures ..kind of like the end of a sock. You shouldn't notice it but I know some ladies with experience will be here soon...I am still waiting.

Vaginal cuff with LAVH

Hi (((Kat))) and (((Nicole)))! I have a 'vaginal cuff' (TVH) and don't notice any difference in terms of how I feel from when I had my uterus and cervix. Lots of women assume because it has a special term, "cuff", it's something that is put in during surgery, but it's merely a term to describe the way they stitch the top of the vagina closed after the uterus is removed. Anyone who has a total hysterectomy (ie does not keep the cervix) has a vaginal cuff. Aren't we lucky?

Good luck with your surgeries!
s,
-Linda

Hi Dammkat and Nicoler76. I've only recently had my surgery (02/22) uterus and cervix removed, so can't answer any "long term" stuff. But right now I don't feel any different period! I have only mild discomfort since surgery what with healing ( less than before!) I too wondered if I'd feel different. But so far... so good!! Good luck to both of you on your upcoming dates!!

Ditto !

All the best on your surgeries. I feel better now then I have in years - I should have done this 5 years ago when it was first suggested !
