Re: Unexpected benefits of hysterectomy!
Hi everyone!
I have been away from the site for quite a while. I still have no regrets in electing to do my hysterctomy. Some ladies I've told are a bit surprised I chose it, the first question I am asked is `do you have kids?' I find this odd it is as if you cannot count yourself as being a woman if you don't have children. I've always said that my worth as a woman is not dependent on being a mother (giving birth) or having a man in my life. Not that I don't want the latter.
I have never wanted to have children (well as far back as I can remember), but I am not against being a mother - adoption or step-mom. So the choice to have a hysto, after years of suffering from the symptoms of my fibroids, was not hard, it actually took me about 2 years to convince my gyno to do a hysto instead of a myomectomy (I did extensive research on both).
I hope all who have chosen this still feel good about their choice a year and more later. I am happy I don't have to go through the constant bleeding, the accidents because my period was sooo heavy at times, the PMS, and just feeling like I could not trust my body, couldn't go to the beach, and afraid to wear whites! It was horrible for me, I had to live on iron tablets or else I'd have bad anemia. So, now I just do the excercises to strenthen my body and pelvic wall. You should do that, I think it's call kingle. Drink lots of water, and listen to your body, let your gyno know if you have concerns or symptoms.
I've said so much, sorry for ranting.
