TVH'ers - what was the worse?
I'm scheduled August 15th and just wanting to get some more insight as to what might be my worst hurdle to jump before, during or after my surgery. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If you read my other posts, I'm worried about blood clots also.

TVH'ers - what was the worse?
iloveauctions (you and my mother would get along just fine! )
I had a TVH on June 30th, kept ovaries, after suffering terribly with extremely heavy periods and excruciating cramps for 34 years. I just wish I would have told myself that healing at 47 years of age just isn't the same as it would have been when I was 27! Plus, this was--to me--the most physically demanding surgery (to recover from) that I've ever had. For other women, they have few problems. Each women is different.
The first week home was rough for me...physically exhausted, nauseus (sp?), splitting headache, no appetite, constipated, and hurting. I didn't hesistate to call my doc (he's really is the most compassionate doc I've ever had--he's a keeper!) twice within the first ten days about my concerns, and both times he asked to see me, just to make sure everything was healing as it should. (I was dehydrated, as it turned out. Who would have thought that in this 90 degree weather?!?) I even developed these painful blisters in an area where women really don't need them!
So, remember, every one of us is unique, and heals "to the tune of their drummer" so to speak. Tomorrow I'll be four weeks post-op, and no more pain (occasional "zingers", though!), am walking a mile a day, driving, my "brain fogginess" has cleared, and generally feel almost 100% again.
Please rememeber, my sister, that you will be undergoing major surgery, though. No two ways around it. Pamper yourself afterwards, relax, take your meds, drink plenty of fluids, and go easy on yourself. We'll all be thinkin' and prayin' for ya!

TVH'ers - what was the worse?
I had my surgery on June 3rd. I didn't realize I would wake up in recovery in so much pain. Do not lie to the nurse when she asks to rate the pain. If you are seriously hurting, tell her it's a 10. I lied because I didn't want to sound like a baby. But, it you are hurting, be honest. The first week was bad (but I don't remember the pain now). Even though you aren't supposed to do anything, try to reposition yourself throughout the day. I found that if I got out of bed and propped myself up in a chair with my feet up, I felt better for a while. Don't be affraid to take your pain meds. They are given to you for a reason. Don't expect much of an appetite for a while. I was hungry, but when I ate, I'd get sick to my stomach. Eat small portions first and drink a lot of water. These are only my experiences and everyone is different. One of the biggest bits of advice I got was this: once you are feeling good, DO NOT decide to do all of the laundry or take a long drive. I did not listen to this advice so much and had a few set backs. It's been nearly 2 months for me and I am feeling great. I've been feeling good for at least a month now. If you listen to your doctor and follow all of his instructions you should do just fine. Even though the first week was really painful, I am so happy that I had the surgery. I dont' remember the last time I had as much energy as I do now. Best of luck!

TVH'ers - what was the worse?
iloveauctions....
I had a TVH on May 3rd (kept ovaries) I can honestly say it was not that bad. I had a spinal with twilight, I woke up in recovery with NO PAIN. Was sent back to my room soon after. I had company all day, could sit up and visit and still no pain. Dr. said spinals have pain meds in them that last for 24 hours. I did regain the feeling in my legs and feet within an hour after surgery. I had a foley and an IV - and that was the worst thing about the whole surgery, they limit your movement and are uncomfortable. I was back home within 23 hours of surgery. Slept alot that day (only because the hospital was so loud at night I couldn't sleep), but after that I found myself doing laundry, dishes, walks and picking up etc.
It's been 3 months and I feel great... a little tired by evening, but otherwise great. I think I might be a "lucky one" but I know theres other women out there that have had the same great outcome as I did - I hope you're one of them too. Take care and feel free to e-mail me with any other questions about the surgery.

TVH'ers - what was the worse?
I Cannot Stress Enough The Importance Of Taking The Full 7 Weeks Of Rest And Care Of Your Body. I Guarded My Body After My Tvh For 7 Weeks Off Of Work (i Returned To Church After 4 Weeks) And Rested - Walked Slow- Got Up From Chair Or Couch Slow- Did Not Vacumm - Dust- Clean For 6 Weeks. I Wanted To Heal And Not Undo What My Excellant Doctor Did. It Took About 3 Months To Get My Hormones Back On Track (yes I Did Keep My Healthy Ovaries) And When The 5th Month Passed And I Realized I Had Not Taken An Aleve For More Then A Couple Of Weeks ( After Living On Them For 10 Years 2 Per Day) And I Had A Smile On My Face And No Back Pain Lower Ab Pain I Thanked The Lord For Creating A Doctor That Could Help Me Feel Wonderful Again.

TVH'ers - what was the worse?
I had my TVH & both ovaries removed June 7th and I must say that it wasn't that bad at all! My gall bladder surgery was worse! The first 24 hours were painful, but the morphine pump took care of that! I was up and walking the next morning and the morphine was stopped. I had only two pain pills in the hospital and only one at home. It's very important to keep walking and drink lots of water! Every woman is different and you'll find that everyone's recovery time is unique and different also. Listen to your body....it will tell you when it's tired! Good luck to you!
