Klebsiella?

I have posted a few times about the never-ending cycle of yeast infections and bacterial infections I have had. On Monday my doctor cultured the discharge I was having and today the office told me it is klebsiella. Does anyone know anything about this? THe only information I can find is it causes pneumonia and is sometimes in wound infections. It seems to be a normal bacteria in your colon, but how did I end up with a vaginal infection with it?

Unfortunately my doctor had left the office by time they got the results so I am not on an anitbiotic yet. I feel just fine now and don't want an antibiotic because it will cause a yeast infection again but on the other hand, I would think the infection would need to be treated?

Thanks for any info anyone has

Kim

klebsiella

Sorry you're having some problems. I've never heard of that bacteria. It sounds, though, as the most important thing you could do is be on the antibiotics. If you're worried about a yeast infection try eating yogurt while on the meds. Keep us posted.

Klebsiella?

Hi Kim, while I'm certainly not an expert on the subject, I remember when I worked in the hospital treating patients with Klebsiella pneumonia.

From what I remember, Klebsiella is an antibiotic resistant bacterial infection. It often causes pneumonia, but can also cause bladder and other infections. I'm not sure why you would have picked it up; your Dr. should be able to offer an educated guess on that.

I know you don't want to take more antibiotics, but I think the most important thing is for you to follow your Drs. orders concerning this infection. If your Dr. prescribes antibiotics, please make sure to take them as directed and until they are completely finished. Often times people stop their antibiotics when they are feeling better (not to say that you did this! ), but this can make infections recur and make them more resistant to the antibiotic treatment if it has to be started again.

To combat the yeast infections, try eating lots of yogurt with live cultures. This can help ward off a yeast infection caused by antibiotics by replenishing the "good bacteria".

Keep us posted, ok? Best wishes and 's
