Family Against TVH

It is funny...Not really...but I am 10 days from a TVH, keeping ovaries. I am 31 years old with a beautiful daughter, and one child, not with me, that I adopted out at 16. I have adenomyosis...Horrible Horrible symptoms....But no matter how much I am for my procedure or how much I try to get my family on my side for this, they won't do it. They don't hear how I feel and how emotionally and physically draining these symptoms have been for me for about 4 years.....Why do we keep trying when it is hopeless...? I am totally ok with my decision...Made with my Dr...completely educated.....It is hard for me though, knowing that my Mom won't call me when I am in the Castle to see how things went...She will call someone else to find out, cause she is against it....Anyone esle with the same....Don't they understand how happy I will be once I move past this last hurdle!!!!

so sorry you have to deal with that, it is hard enough to anticipate without having to feel rejected because of your decision! Pease remember you have to take care of yourself first! Maybe when they see how much better you feel after they will understand

Hi!

I'm so sorry your family isn't being supportive to you right now. Like Diane said, take care of you first. You sound very positive and at peace about the surgery. I don't really have any magical words for you to make your situation better, but I do want to send you best wishes for a successful surgery and a very uneventful recovery! I will keep you in my prayers that everything will work out for you. s

Deb

You did say you are 31, not 13, right?

Sorry. I didn't mean that to sound like a slam against your mom. But as long as you know you're making the right decision, and you've educated yourself (and it sounds like you have done that), if people can't be supportive, that's THEIR problem, not yours.

In the meantime, take it easy. Your family will either eventually a) be happy for you, b) come to accept your decision even though they aren't all that happy about it, or c) not be able to support you. I've been where you are -- not with the hyst decision, but with other stuff like bad marriages, etc. I know how little fun it is to feel like you're all alone.

But you're not alone. We're all here for you. Come seek us out any time, and we'll help you out any way we can. This is about YOU. Take care of yourself.

I am so sorry that you aren't getting the support you need. Until someone has been in your shoes it is really hard for them to understand what you are going through. I am a firm believer of that.

I have been through many things in my life that I never thought I would go through and I am only 32. I heard criticism and felt rejection like you woudln't believe. But you know, I had to make the decisions that were going to make me happy and make me feel better. (been through a divorce for one which was NOT a popular decision) Looking back now on that stuff I am glad I did what I did and finally after several years have passed many agree I am much better off.

Now healthwise, there are some people that do not agree with my decision to get a hysterectomy either. They say I am "too young" or that I am not thinking straight. But you know, I know what my body is going through. I am the one that curls up from the pain and sits on the couch crying because I hurt so bad. They aren't. So until they have been there just remember.........you have to look out for yourself. I believe they will come around in time. If they truly love you they will see how much better you will feel.

Good luck!
