New And considering LSH with 17 cm fibroid

Hi everyone, this is only my 2nd post. I had horrid bleeding and pain and end of March had fibroid resection, tubes tied and novasure. My fibroid was 2.5 cm. I complained the entire time afterwards about being in pain. no dr wanted to check me out and my main dr said everything was fine. I went out of state and my mum took me to her dr. She found an infection and that I now have a 17 cm fibroid, all in a matter of months. I get another ultrasound in 2 weeks but assuming it doesn't magically leave I see hysterectomy the only other option. I've had a lot of pain and my stomach is swollen along with back pain. I'd love everyones thoughts and opinions. I don't want lupron. I'm sick of having surgeries. I'm sick of being in pain and at my whits end. I so appreciate this board.

I'm wondering, too, if you might have adenomyosis (a thickening of the uterus, much like having endometriosis inside the uterine wall). After my ablation, that happened to me -- although not quite so soon. With that much pain, I'm with you. LSH is a wonderful option -- I was back at work in 10 days -- but then again, everything went exactly as planned. I was very lucky. I wish you the best!

New And considering LSH with 17 cm fibroid

Well the nurse misread the results over the phone. it's 17mm not centimeters but I do also have 2 uterine cysts at 1 cm. Honestly if things get worse I will have an LSH. I'm not going through anymore resections and such. I'm going to look up uterine cysts so I know what they are and what the nasties do. Looking back I probably would have just done an LSH instead of the rest with the let over pain.

New And considering LSH with 17 cm fibroid

Hi Val319,

I had a LSH for two fibroids measuring 9.1 cm total. My LSH is still one of the best things I ever did for my long term health. My LSH gave me back my ~quality of life~ so I cannot say enough about the surgery type.

Best wishes~

Mary

I hate to be hasty but if it is 17 cm you need to get it out. I waited for a year when mine was 5 cm. It started growing a year later. In 2 weeks it went from 8 cm to 12 cm. That was at the time of my surgery that was moved up a week. I don't know how you are doing it because I was so sick and anemic. They say once a fibroid gets to 8-9 cm it can grow really fast and that is what I believe has happened to you. I hope the best for you. Don't wait too long.

The nurse misread the results and it's 17 mm but I have another ultra sound in a few weeks. I still have a lot of abdomenal pain and I'm not willing to go through more resections. The cysts concern me and maybe they are causing pain.

I apologize I didn't read the other posts. Well, I am glad it isn't 17 cm but it does sound like the pain is making life hard for you. Basically, I tried to wait as long as I could to not have a hysterectomy but I was at peace with it when I had it. I am a little over 2 weeks post op and I know I had to have it done. I hope all goes well for you. I know it can be frustrating.

New And considering LSH with 17 cm fibroid

I've been in constant pain. I will be discussing it with the gyn at my next visit but I'm not happy living with constant pain and would still like to have the LSH done and be over with it all. I so appreciate everyone and their comments. I get these stabbing pain in my abdomen that the drs seem to just ignore but if I move around too much I have to take darvocet and I'm sore for days. It's been at 4 months and now having cysts arrive, I'm feeling at the end of my rope here.

(((Hugs))) to you! I also know the frustration of dealing with painful fibroids…some docs can be insensitive to just how much pain they can cause (particularly since some think that fibroids shouldn’t be so symptomatic). Just wanted to let you know you’re not alone and I hope you find resolution soon that works for you. After trying various things (including an abdominal myomectomy in 2002), my body continues to be a fibroid garden (yes, the possibility of fibroids growing again after myomectomy is very real). Although my surgery isn’t scheduled yet (have a surgery consult tomorrow), I’m going to be having a TAH and BSO (unfortunately can’t go the laparoscopic route due to severe adhesions from previous pelvic surgeries).

Hang in there & feel free to PM me if you would like to discuss any of this in more detail.

~ Lisa
