Hysteroscopy "No Touch" advice.

Need help

My wife has 2 small polyps found in her uterus.
The problem is as follows. She needs to have a hysteroscopy to remove them.

Without going into details about her past surgical experiences she has asked her doctor the following:

1. She wanted only females to assist in the procedure (the doctor said she can accommodate that request)
(however it is a “teaching hosiptal” and students may be present, but we can request not to allow them in OR)
2. She wanted to have it performed under local anethesia (the doctor will not do it under local only General)

The problem is that my wife does not want to be put under GENERAL anethesia. (DUE TO A PAST BAD EXPERIENCE) and the fact that she has MS.

3. My wife then suggested that I be present in the room if she is given general anethesia. Then she feels safe and protected.
(The doctor refuses to do any procedure with ANY family member in the room. And stated there is nothing for my wife to worry about.
Not sure why students can be in there and I cant. She does not undersatnd why she refuses to use local. To make matters worse my wife has a friend who is a nurse and said doctors perfer using general because they then don’t have to worry about the patients comfort during the procedure.)

I have done research and found that there is a “no touch” procedure that uses a flexible heteroscope and is done under local anethesia and is better tolerated and does not require use of a speculum or tanaculum. It does take a bit more skill on the part of the physician to manipulte the flexible hystroscope.

The issue is we can not find any OBGYNs that do this newer “no touch” procedure?

We are in central NJ can any one help?

Re: Hysteroscopy "No Touch" advice.

Hi (((needinfohelp))) While we understand that you are very concerned for your wife and want to help her, the TOS of this website, to which members agree when they register, state in part:
  Quote:
Agreement to the following Terms of Service provides that you are female, over the age of 17 and posting for GYN medical/hysterectomy support as HysterSisters Hysterectomy Recovery website is created to be "Woman-to-woman" online support community for your own hysterectomy decisions and issues.
In other words, men are not permitted to register or post, in order to keep this a comfortable place for women to share what can be very personal information with other women. If your wife is contemplating a hysterectomy, perhaps you could encourage her to register here and post her own questions? She would be most welcome!

Meanwhile, wishing you the best of luck finding a doctor who can help.

s,
-Linda
