No uterus . . . but still crampy

Tomorrow marks six weeks since my robotic assisted (DaVinci) hysterectomy -- uterus and cervix gone, but I have my ovaries.

Since surgery I have gone through two what-would-have-been periods, where I have zero bleeding but still crampiness in my lower back and abdomen. When I saw my dr today, he said it was totally normal, since the ovaries control a lot of that.

Can anyone explain the details of this to me? I expected all the cramping, etc., to come from my uterus contracting to expel the monthly lining that builds up. Now that I don't have a uterus, what is causing it? (I do know that my bowels have always been looser the first day or so of my period . . . so are they involved?) What kinds of things go on that my ovaries control?

I am always so curious to know how my body works and now I'd like to get educated a little bit more. Thanks!

Re: No uterus . . . but still crampy

I don't really know all the exactness that your looking for, but my doc told me I will still cramp occasionally when I would normally be having my period. Same with ovulation. I might still get crampy when it's time to ovulate.

I am 3 weeks post op from my TVH. All I have left are my ovaries.

Xela, I totally agree, I hope someone explains that to us! I am 4 months post-op and had uterus and cervix out but left ONE ovary and I have major cramps during the so-called period time and ovulation is the worst--I double up with pain (same as I did before hyst) I guess we are suppose to be happy because atleast we know that our ovaries are working???????
