2.5 weeks post hysterectomy: Woke up bleeding

I woke up at 3:45 am bleeding and have been bleeding since. It is about as much as a period, and this has not happened at all since my March 27 surgery. The only thing I did differently yesterday was sit in a chair outside for about an hour which was pretty sore, but I would have thought I could do by now. I am not sure what to do at this point- see my GP? My surgeon? I am worried and don't know what to do. Any advice appreciated!

Re: Woke up bleeding

I do that occasionally too. Bleeding is normal the first 6 weeks as long as it's not more than one maxi pad per hour. You can call your dr to let them know how much you are bleeding and they will either reassure you or tell you to come in. I had to go to ER for vaginal cuff hematoma (but that was major bleeding!) and even though that was scary for me, the ER dr and my surgeon weren't too concerned. Recline with feet up as much as you can. Take care!

Re: 2.5 weeks post hysterectomy: Woke up bleeding

As the above poster said, some bleeding is normal for the first six weeks.
If it becomes heavy or you develop a fever or it smells foul get to any doctor as soon as possible.
Otherwise, just keep an eye on it and when you have post op checks with the surgeon let him/her know. And they might do an internal at 6 weeks just to make sure everything is healing correctly.
Take great care

Re: 2.5 weeks post hysterectomy: Woke up bleeding

This happened to me at 2 weeks. I was laying down and swoosh, there it was. I hadn't bled after surgery or up to this point. I described it as what a normal period would be like. Mine were heavy so, I didn't know normal. It went away but, I wore pads for a full two weeks as it lessened and lessened.

Also, I did find that it had a different odor than period blood (TMI). I thought it stunk actually.

It will get better! I had my hysterectomy 3/9 and I just spot here and there.
