TVH: TVH with cystocele and rectocele repairs schd 5 wks before long car trip any advice?

Hi I'm new to the HysterSisters,
I'm 49 and scheduled for a TVH with Cystocele and Rectocele repairs in 3 weeks. I have done a lot of reading in the last 2 days and I'm concerned about the scheduling of my surgery. My Husband and I have a week long East Coast trip planned 5 1/2 weeks after my scheduled surgery. I want it to be a fun, wonderful trip. Has anyone traveled after their surgery? Any advice? Should I postpone my surgery until after my trip? Thank you so much for any help or advice!

Your not going to be comfortable traveling on a long car trip 5 1/2 weeks post op most likely. With your repairs I don't think it would be advisable either. You may be able to manage a trip, but fun and wonderful will most likely not be how it goes.You won't be able to have intercourse either, so if a romantic trip is what your planning I'd reschedule the trip.I wasn't cleared to swim for 8 weeks ( and didn't have repairs) so if swimming is planned for this trip you may not be cleared for that either yet.

I'm 7 weeks out after a TAH and just had a weekend trip to visit family. Trip was 7 hours each way, normally it's a quicker trip but I had to stop every hour or so to walk for a few minutes. By the time I got home last night I swore no more long car rides for a year. I had more swelling and aches than I'd had in weeks. I healed fairly quickly & was back at work less than 3 weeks after TAH, but the trip was rougher than I'd expected. There is no way I could enjoy a week long trip in a car right now.

Everyone is different but for me the car rides really hurt during the trips and after the trip. It was the weirdest pain. Also, my stamina wasn't back and I needed time on the couch at that point in my recovery. Sitting is nice but doesn't take the pressure off your bottom like laying down.

Thank you for the advice! I rescheduled my surgery for November and had a wonderful trip with my husband. Getting nervous about the upcoming surgery date, I'll be glad when it's done. Hope your recovery is going well!!
