Question about losing ovaries and HRT
On April 6th, I'm schedule for a LASVH BOS for an ovarian mass of both ovaries, and adnormal bleeding for the past 3yrs. I'm 49 turning 50 in aug and post menopausal, because one cyst is complex and septated, my age adnormal bleeding for 3yrs now and 3 D&C's because of it, as well as constant pelvic pain that doc feels this is the best thing for me. I'm just anxious about losing the ovaries and the menopause symtoms such as hot flashes vaginal dryness irritabitly becoming even worse then they are now. Although I've decided to take HRT, would feel so much better if any of you wonderful ladies who have gone through this would share your experience. I'm keeping my cervix, and know i have to take both. Which HRT are you taking? How did you feel after the surgrey? Thank you for listening.
Best Wishes to all,
Griselle

Question about losing ovaries and HRT
Hi Griselle,
I had a BSO when I was 49, and am using bio-identical hormones compounded by my pharmacist. It can take a while to find a balance, but I am very happy with my HRT. The key is patience as with every dose change, you have to wait 6 weeks to make another change. It takes that long to get the full effect of a dose. Sometimes the first or second method of delivery doesn't work quite right and you have to keep trying different methods. This happened to me, but I finally have found something that works well for me.
I have occassional hot flashes when my needs for estrogen change because of my activity level or illness, but they are mild. There are also vaginal estrogens just for the purpose of vaginal dryness which work very well.
Best Wishes.

Question about losing ovaries and HRT
Yes, my Dr and my pharmacist work together to decide on the dosages. I talk with my pharmacist about any symptoms I am having, and he makes a recommendation to my Dr. who takes the pharmacist's recommendation into consideration when writing the prescription. It's a team effort
