a few questions....

So I am 2 weeks 4 days post op and was wondering if anyone else thinks they can take on the world one day and then feel like they cant move the next?

I still cant lay flat in my bed....is that normal?

I have pain in my left side where the drain tube was in me....again is this normal?

I am constipated and have hemorrids on top of that....anything I can do to ease that pain?

I have this little place in my belly button smaller than a dime where my incision is not healing properly....anything I should do about that??? Ive been putting neosporin on it.....

Any way to get some strength back??? I was separating my laundry to wash and I got so out of breath I felt like I was running a marathon......

Re: a few questions....

Sorry you are feeling so poorly. It takes each of us our own time to heal. Don't push yourself! (Why are you doing laundry???)
I would have the doctor look at the incision if it isn't healing correctly. You don't want to let that get away from you.
Are you still taking a stool softener? You can still do that if you are constipated. I use Tucks pads and cream for my hemorroids. It 'cools' 'em off a bit!
I don't know about the laying flat or the pain where the drain tube was. I have been able to lay flat since the day of surgery and I didn't have any drains.
I do have high and low energy days. Listen to your body. If you are having low day, rest, please.

Re: a few questions....

Yes, still taking the stool softener. I have high and low energy days as well, but lately more low energy. I wish I could do more, but I know this surgery was more major than the last one I had and I need the rest. It breaks my heart because my two kids are wanting to go and do and play and I just cant take them.

I use tucks too, but MAN!!! and i cant lay flat because I am a little heavy and when my stomach shifts it hurts.

I am doing laundry cause it needs to be done. LOL. My kids are good helpers though. I dont lift anything but the clothes to put them in the washer. They will push the laundry basket with the clean clothes in it down the hall and into my bedroom and hand me the clothes to fold. Its kinda cute!!!!

Re: a few questions....

I am 2 weeks post op. I have little bursts of energy, but they don't last that long. Taking a shower still feels like running a marathon.

Keep the doctor updated on that spot that is not healing well.

Re: a few questions....

I'm 2 weeks and 3 days post-op so I'm right behind you! I didn't have a laprosope, but I have had a laproscope assisted surgery in the past (lap-band ; ). It could take a VERY long time before your able to move around like you used to, just be patient with that while your body heals to a place where it feels comfortable. DO take care of that little infection. Post-op secondary infections are not to be taken lightly and once they spread it's most likely a trip back to the hosp. until it's localized again. If you just have a little red irritation surrounding the incision then I would just follow it during your regular post op. If your seeing red streaking on your skin, or drainage that is yellow/brown/green I would make an appt. earlier. I am still having good and bad days also. I tried to go back to work at 2 weeks, I was only able to work a total of 12 hours then it was a full day of nothing before I was able to do anything, even just little stuff.

Re: a few questions....

It all sounds very normal. Preperation H ointment for the butt was helpful for me. I was not able to lay flat for a few weeks. I am over weight too but each day will get better. It took a while to get my energy back but you will. Just take it easy for now & heal correctly! Best wishes.

Re: a few questions....

Try elevating your feet during a BM to help with the constipation - I use yoga blocks next to the throne in the bathroom. You could also use phone books, etc.

I am currently using about 7-8 different types of pillows to make myself comfortable lying in bed. I've got a body pillow, a wedge, a micro-bead pillow which is great to support my tummy when I lay on my side(s), and several other shapes/sizes. You might find something under your knees will really help you get comfortable on your back.

Hope this helps!

Hi Cake Lady. You sound perfectly normal to me. I had a lot of post op anemia (10 transfusions before emergency hyster) and the fatigue was plain awful. Eat healthy foods and increase activity slowly. You will find your stamina returning, expecially as you become more active. It took me a couple of months to return to pre-hyster energy levels.

I just had my gallbladder out in May and I had a spot in my naval incision that seemed to ooze forever. I was told to put nothing on it, but to keep it clean and dry. Maybe the neosporin is the culprit. You should call and ask your doctor about it.
