Rectocele, cystocele after Hysterectomy

It's been two years since my TVH and am now having surgery to repair rectocele and cystocele. Will recovery be about the same as the hysterectomy? Wish they'd have been repaired at the time of the hysterectomy, but they weren't and I don't know what to expect.

Hyster Sisters site was such a godsend for answers to my hysterectomy questions and am hoping for more of the same. Thank you

Rectocele, cystocele after Hysterectomy

My mom had this done last summer, 19 years after her hyst. She had the same instructions in May of 2007 as I have this summer...from the same doctor. No lifting more than a gallon of milk, no car riding for one week, no driving for three weeks, etc.

I asked my doctor if he could prevent these things when he went in to do my hyst, and he said he could not. He would only make sure that it wasn't already ready to happen. Post op, he said that everything was where it was supposed to be, so all he could do now is fix it if it happened in the future.

Thank you for your reply. I wasn't sure if the Dr. was just covering for his wife who did the hysterectomy, or if these truly do happen after. I feel much better. Thank you.

Not looking forward to more surgery, but I can't go on this way. I'd love to feel normal again and so more surgery.

Rectocele, cystocele after Hysterectomy

My mom worked in a bank...and he asked her if she did any heavy lifting. She said the only thing she did "a lot" was shove cases of reams of paper around, but with her feet. In the year prior, she had done a lot of house remodeling--painting, up and down ladder, etc. having moved into a new home. I don't know what caused it for sure, though, and neither does her doc.

Her vaginal walls were thinned and she had to use some estrogen cream to toughen them up, as I understand...and that is where he went through to do the repair. In the meeting post op with the doctor (I was there with my dad) it sounded to me like that was part of what caused it...thinning of the walls.

She also had a catheter through a small incision in her stomach in case her bladder did not kick back in. She had to go to the bathroom, shut it off, see how much she went, then see if the catheter released any more. She was able to fortunately go home without the cath, but not everyone does.

I'm glad you got some help...maybe another person with direct experience will come along and be able to give input. I wonder if there is a forum on here for these type repairs...if so, one of the moderators will let us know!

I KNEW there was a forum for this topic...this is the Pelvic Floor & Bladder Issues board. I don't mean to make you feel run off...but I bet there are lots of ladies over there that can help you, and they just don't come over here to check anymore.

Good luck!
