Concerned
Hi. I am four weeks post op and am not cleared to drive yet, but I had to yesterday because I had to pick up my son from school. Anyway, things were going well until I had to slam on the breaks to avoid hitting an elderly woman who pulled out of a parking lot without seeing me coming. Anyway, I barely avoided the collision and the sudden stop made my seatbelt tighten. I felt a little sore where the seatbelt tightened on my ab. but otherwise felt okay. Last night I took my first soak in the tub! I thought it would help relax my muscles, etc. This morning I noticed a spot on my undies. I checked and am bleeding (pinkish). There is only spotting on my pad, but when I wipe there's a lot more.
I haven't bled or spotted once before today. Is this something I should call my doc. about? Is it normal to start spotting a month later? Could the bath have triggered something? Please help. I need your advice.

I think you should call the doctor. It's possible that you could have some bleeding at four weeks, but the fact that you had undue pressure from the seatbelt yesterday and the bleeding today make me think that the two might be related.

I called and he wants to see me tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm a bit frightened, but am hopeful that this will be normal spotting.

Hi Julie
I am so sorry that you had such an upsetting experience. We share the same surgery date.{TAH} I have not had any spotting and my feeling is yours may be related to the seatbelt or the bath but you never know, alot of people start spotting as the stitches dissolve. I haven't been cleared to bathe yet only shower. I think you should call the DR, and put your feet up and rest for awhile. I was cleared to drive at 10 days post op, but waited until 3 1/2 weeks.
I have been too nervous to wear a seatbelt{so I really feel for you}but I keep thinking what if you weren't wearing one and didn't stop in time. Thank You for the wake up call.
I will keep positive thoughts that everything is fine.
Take Care & keep me posted.. I'll be thinking of you.

I'll let you know what he says after the appointment tomorrow. The bleeding has slowed down and I wonder if I'll even be bleeding a little bit tomorrow. But I'll keep the appt. My DH is driving me! LOL
Thanks for the support! I called my dr.s office before bathing and the nurse said it should be fine... oh, well. who knows!
Thanks again

Hi! I know I'd be alarmed, too. I started bleeding on Christmas Day,not a lot,but at 5 weeks,I know I shouldn't have been at all. I talked to the doctor and she said my bleeding was from my internal sutures coming out!! I don't remember that from my TAH,which I had first(this last surgery was to remove the ovaries). Anyway,it's worth checking out,and good luck. Hope it's nothing major. Try to avoid tub baths for awhile, though. You're probably not ready, yet. I only shower. Never bathe in the tub; haven't since I was a kid!!!

Julie, good luck at the Dr today!
I think we need to remember to ask questions and I am thankful that there are so many suggestions and lists to look at on this site.
I did have a comment about the bath... I was told, and still am being told absolutely NO baths until I am cleared after 6 weeks.
At one point during the first week, I had some discomfort "down below" and when the nurse called to check on me, she said to just take a bath and it might help...I had to remind her of the no bath restriction!!
Maybe your nurse "forgot" the no bath rules, too!
We are just one day apart with our surgeries. I was cleared to drive as soon as I was off of pain meds and did drive in 5 days. But, I will not be taking a bath any time soon.
I hope that you are fine, but please do be careful and make sure that you ask the right questions and even question the answers if it isn't consistent with what you had been told before.
Good luck!
Laura

hi!
Good luck at your appt. today. I went yesterday for my 4 week check. I was passing blood and "spiders" Turns out the spiders are sutures. I hadn't bled for a couple weeks so I was concerned. The doc says I'm just healing slowly.
Good luck! Let us know!
Kray

baths, etc
Doc said baths were okay now. I have a yeast infection. Bleeding is from sutures starting to dissolve. What a relief. He said the accident didn't have anything to do with the bleeding.
Thanks for all your support. I won't bathe every day, but I do enjoy a nice soak in the tub with the jets!

Hi Julie
I am so happy yo hear that you are O.K. I was thinking of you today when I went out in my car. It was snowing{what else is new} and I was too scared not to wear my seatbelt. It's funny how little things like that are so hard for us now. glad to hear that you can still enjoy your baths on occasion. Take Care,
