new here and I have a low blood count
Hi,
I just joined the group about a week ago. I have found myself returning to the boards allot lately. My surgery was scheduled for Monday the 11th but I just got the news that my hemoglobin count is too low to undergo the op. I know it is better to be safe than sorry but I am so upset by this. I have gone through the whole gamut of emotions over the past month. I have been through denial, acceptance, and fear and as of yesterday had come to a spiritual level of calm about the whole thing. This morning it seems as though I have been thrown right back to the beginning and I have to do it all over again. I guess right now I am just emotional about it all and I feel I have lost "the light at the end of the tunnel syndrome”. I hope to find some support on this sight, I guess it is no accident I found it when I did. I truly believe you are never alone, and this sight reaffirms this belief.
Thank you
Rottie

Rottie,
We, your sisters, are with you!
Have they given you any vitimins or anything to help build the hemoglobin?? have they given you any ideas as to when you can expect to reschedule??
I, too, have been spending a lot of time here lately, though I am to the point where I just want the wqiting to be over. I am very sure that my decision is the right one for me, and ursela the reminds me on a fairly regular basis of why it is. (three periods in the last five weeks, compelete with cramps and grumpiness)((despite being on BCPs !!) *punch*
Since they say that the waiting is the worst part, I hope yours is over soon!!

no to either one. i won't see the Dr. until thursday, so i won't begin any treatments until then. i have known this was going on with me and have been trying to pay attention to it with my diet and a multi-vitamin but to no avail. i have mentioned it to the dr's office before but have had no luck in getting the vitamins. Oh well they know now and that is what it is about, where to go from here. thank you so much for your hugs and i send them right back
Still waiting,
Rottie

(((Rottie)))
s I can't imagine what it must feel like to have surgery cancelled a few days ahead of time! I know what I went through getting everything ready, all I can say is I'm sorry for you.
OTC iron supplements don't help a lot if your counts are way down. I don't know what my actual blood count was when I went to my DR last fall, but she gave me a prescription for an iron supplement and I took 150mg 3x/day for eight weeks before surgery, and 2x/day for six weeks after surgery.
Best wishes and let us know what happens next week.
