Help need advice

I am one week post op. I had a LAVH/BSO with posterior and anterior repair. I've been running a low grade fever the last couple of nights and I've noticed my discharge on my pad looks like it contains pus. My chest felt heavy last night and this morning I woke with a scratchy congested feeling. I kept my fever all night but nothing high. I took my Motrin 800mg this morning at 5:30 and it kept my fever low for the first four hours but now it is creeping up. I have 100.8 at the moment with chills. I called my dr. earlier about the congestion and they have called in a Z-pack in case it is bacterial. I took my shower about an hour ago and afterwards took a mirror to look at my episiotomy type incision on my bottom and found pus. I have another call into my doctor, but I'm sure they are out to lunch at the moment...it usually takes a couple hours to hear from them. Has anyone with this type surgery had pus develop from the incision? Is this normal? I'm using my peri-bottle to rinse with warm water after I use the bathroom....which is SOOOOOO soothing. My DH is at work and DD is at school, so I'm home alone and miserable and looking for information!!

Make sure you tell the dr. exactly what the symptoms are. Z-pack, most likely, will not work on this type of infection. you probably will get different meds and will not have to take the zpack. make sure to ask, tho.

I haven't had this myself, but have read other threads where women have had this. Any incision can get infected, and your dr. should see you for an exam to make sure you don't have an internal infection going on as well.

I would wait for the doc.'s office to call back and see what they say. Good for you for being proactive and taking care of yourself.

I agree with CC about being seen. I would push for that.

Sorry I didn't respond.....I got really sick and today is my first day back with the living. My fever got as high as 103.9 and that's when my dr. suggested my DH take me to the hospital in the middle of the night. I have congestion in my head and chest and am also nauseated. Well, I learned that I am healing well from the surgery, and unfortunately I had to endure a vaginal exam 8 days post-op. I had a flu shot a couple months back, but apparently my DH and I have the flu. I'm trying to look at the positive side, so here's my theory...I am notorious for over doing it when I feel good, so I think this was God's way to put me on my butt for two weeks of recovery!! I think he put DH on his butt to keep me company!! :-)

Isn't that goofy that you still have a chance to get the flu after the shot? My Doc. told me that too. Hope you feel better. I had a pelvic at 10 days post op, but my doc. was super careful and only looked. I thought the 4 week with the pressing on the lower stomach was worse. Glad you have your DH with you
