I had it done. I bled from day 1 post op until I had the SN treatment in the office at my 2 week check up (12/21).....it worked for 3 days and I was bleeding again (12/24) but not nearly as bad..I seem to bleed with activity levels..the mosre active I am the more I bleed...wonder if I have to have another treatment as well..but since I wasn't healing properly she wanted to see me back in 2 weeks....OI....

Re: Silver Nitrate to Stop Post Op Bleeding

I had no bleeding at first- then bled week 2 and had to have SN treatment. I stopped bleeding for 4 days then it started up again- at week 3 I had another SN treatment (in 2 areas!). I am 5 weeks post-op now and STILL have light spol bleeding. I wonder how common this is? I go back at 6 weeks for a check-up. Maybe someday I won't have to wear a pad!...lol

Re: Silver Nitrate to Stop Post Op Bleeding

so can someone explain this a little more? Does is hurt? When you get it done, does that mean you are on restrictions again, like if get it done at my next appt would my dr then not release me to full duty ?

Thanks so much and I hope it's not an allergic reaction and that it stops the bleeding asap.

Re: Silver Nitrate to Stop Post Op Bleeding

The SN treatment didn't hurt me. I felt a little bit of pressure but that's it. I think that the SN solution heals & cauterizes the areas that it is applied to

Re: Silver Nitrate to Stop Post Op Bleeding

Kathy, my doctor said I might feel some cramping when he applied the silver nitrate. I did not feel any pain. It was pretty much just like getting a pap smear. It did work for me and I had no more spotting. I had it done at 7 weeks post op and he did release me from all limitations on that day.

Re: Silver Nitrate to Stop Post Op Bleeding

I had the silver nitrate yesterday for bleeding. How long does it take to work? Don't want to sound gross but its pretty sore so had a look downstairs. Does the silver nitrate effect just the cuff or the whole vagina? Mine looks kind of grey now and has skin (?) peeling off. Am still bleeding but not sure if that is from my granulation or from the sore skin?
Thanks.

Re: Silver Nitrate to Stop Post Op Bleeding

I think it is effevtive immediately. However, you may have some rust color discharge from the SN treatment for a few days. I didn't notice any soreness on the outside. I did have some cramping the night of the treatment.

Re: Silver Nitrate to Stop Post Op Bleeding

I have had 2 treatments one at 4 weeks and one at 6 weeks. I am still bleeding. I was cleared for intimacy and during and after I am bleeding a lot. Where does this blood come from; I thought it was all taken out? I have been bleeding/spotting since week 1 post-op; 5 weeks straight. I am wondering if it ever stops?

Re: Silver Nitrate to Stop Post Op Bleeding

I had a silver nitrate treatment 3 weeks post op for 2 reasons... 1.) Granulation tissue- it was causing the dark brown discharge...2.) B/c 75% of my cuff was healed and the othe 25% was healing slower.... It did not burn or hurt in anyway.. I work with chemicals and we use SN (AgNO3) all of the time... All I could think was wow they are using this in my body... Lol
