have decided on LASH

After alot of research and debates (with myself I have finally decided on having the LASH instead of TVH. Originally I wanted to have the TVH to avoid scars on my abdomen and thought the recovery time would be shorter, but after much research I have decided that the small scars I would have are worth me keeping my cervix. I was horrified at the thought of having any loss of sensation or having some sort of dysfunction after surgery with the TVH and loss of the cervix specifically. From what I have read, there are far more positive stories from women who have had the LASH opposed to the TVH. The doctor did give me my options and left the decision up to me. I have never had an abnormal PAP and my doctor said the likelyhood of getting fibroids in my cervix was very low. I am having this done due to large fibroids, the largest one being about 4x3 inches and is pressing on my rectum and spine. That along with what I really hope to be my VERY LAST PERIOD EVER!! is really making me wish my surgery date was this week and not in 2 weeks.

Re: have decided on LASH

I keep rubbing it in my teen girls faces and my sister's that I will no longer have a period...every AGAIN!

I had a LAVH..did have my cervix removed. The doctor didn't give me a choice but I am assuming he knew more than me I had a prolapsed uterus so I am thinking the cervix wasn't where it was supposed to be either since they are connected.

I do have small scars on my belly that the doctor assured me would get better but like I told him...they just blend with the stretch marks lol

As for sensation...not sure if I understand your comment completely but I still have great sensation whenever my husband isn't working too hard

I could be wrong but I would think vaginal surgery is less painful and does have a much quicker recovery time than abdominal so I do believe you made a good decision....you did the best thing by doing your research and doing what is best for you! Good luck. It's been 2 months post op and I feel absolutely awesome!!!

---->I have just read alot about women who lost some sensation after having their cervix removed and the thought of that scared me since alot of my pleasure comes from him bumping my cervix.

---> I am having LASH, (laproscopic supracervical hysterectomy) totally laproscopic and no vaginal cuff to heal, so from what I have read the recovery time is a little less because of that. They cauterize the top of the cervix, so there are no stitches to heal, other than the small incisions on the belly.

Re: have decided on LASH

That's right...no cuff because you're keeping your cervix

Heck I don't know what I would've done if I healed any quicker..I had to tell myself at 2 wks not to overdo it because I felt so good

Good luck with your surgery...I really do believe it has so many benefits!
