Good Plan!

Hi KJME: Yes, sounds like a plan. I'm doing fine. I am a quality assurance specialist for a national medical transcription company and I work from home, so I started back to work in less than a week. I have had no problems whatsoever. Right now I'm fighting a killer cold, but I think that is because of the goofy weather we've been having. I had my surgery on a Fri early morning. They took my catheter out about 9:30 that evening and I went home on Saturday about 5:30 p.m. I actually liked being in the hospital just because I felt like a queen....beeping for water refills, calling the kitchen for food, watching TV in bed. It was kind of nice. Anyway...then I had to get back to reality. I mean don't get me wrong, I love my home too, but I liked being waited on at the hospital. Right now I have no pain at all. My lap incisions on my belly are healed up. I had my 2-week check last Fri and she did a pelvic and said I'm just about all healed up and doing excellent. She still said to stick with the no sex for 6 weeks from the day of surgery and I'm fine with that. I wish you the best. Oh, about the HRT...I take nothing. I have had some little minor hot flashes, but nothing to take a pill about. My doc said if I need anything she is just a phone call away. She says some women get full blown hot flashes the same day as surgery, so told me I am adjusting really well. I just kick off the blanket at night if I feel too warm. But I don't get all soaking wet sweating or anything like that, just feel warm. She told me to take 1500 of calcium (3 servings of dairy) and 800 units of vit D for my bones. I feel great. I pray everything goes just as smoothly for you. Take care!!!

Response to those who wonder "why?"

My husband was the one who didn't understand why I wanted to go through with this! I offered to have him come along on a Dr. visit, but he "doesn't do" OB/GYN's. He went through the motions and stayed with me at the hospital during the procedure, but I don't think he ever understood, until 1 1/2 weeks after the surgery I was smiling as I came out of the bathroom and he asked what was up. I told him that was the longest I'd gone in over 4 years without bleeding. His response was, "really?" Yes, that's what I've been trying to tell you for years. I'm still not sure he gets it, but he's glad I'm starting to feel a little better. FYI-I had a LSH, with adnomyosis, fibroids, a 4 year old c-section scar that was bleeding and had never healed correctly. I'd already gone through an ablation, and a repeat laser ablation.

Let your 'certain family member' know that some of knows that it's the only way to have a healthy, normal life again and if she is surprised by your age there are plenty of us here that are even younger that is enduring the same things. Remind her that health problems knows no age limit, sex, race, etc. and that your health is what is most important right now! Good luck to you!

Only YOU know what is right for you. Do not let anyone else tell you what to do. Trust your Dr. and your instincts.

I would thank your friend for her concern and let her know that you have made a decision that is right for you.

I am so glad that no one, in my life, asked such things. I told those, who I felt like telling, and they all...basically...said "Oh, cool.".

The only weird moment I had was with my boss. First, let me say that I adore him. He is younger than me in years, but so much wiser in business. 99% of us, in our small company, would follow him if he ever left...so we have told him that if he ever leaves, it better not be due to us as we all plan to follow him. LOL!

Anyway, the weird moment was that, while I sat down with him to discuss my surgery and time off (I earn a living on 100% commission, no vacation nor sick time), he and his wife were going through a high-risk pregnancy after spending over $500k of their own money in infertility treatments. It was awkward, yet supportive.

Yea!

Response to those who wonder "why?"

HI, I have not had anyone make any direct comments to me, but I am sure they are thinking it. I am only 38, and many of my family didn't even know I have been having problems for so long. I felt it was a rather private thing. I mean who discusses bleeding, rectal pain, and pain with intercourse with their mother in law, brothers, coworkers etc. So I think alot were shocked when I told them I has having a hyster. A few even replied "I never knew you were having troubles..." But any way , as another hyster sister put it for me just because it is "elective " per say, does not mean it isn't necessary. "Elective only means it is not emergency". Also as your family is trying to ask if there is anything else that can be done, they don't realize that you don't want to "try" something to see if it helps. You want what is going to work and finally relieve you of the awful symptoms you have been suffering with for so long. That's how I feel too. Also my husband says "I just want my wife back" I found that very comforting and supportive. Good luck to you. Don't let anyone else make you second guess yourself.

Response to those who wonder "why?"

All of you ladies have been so awsome so far, your comments and advices are totally priceless. My mom died some years back, I dont't have a sister (until now) and don't think I want to talk to my mom in law anymore about it. I do think this will be better for me in the long run, I know that I will feel better eventually, and I'm only a little nervous about the first few weeks post op, mostly for my husband and kiddos. I hope they can manage me been out ot pocket for a while, they'll have to.
I'm thinking about buying a laptop, just so I can keep in touch with you all!
Love,
KJ

Response to those who wonder "why?"

My dh bought me a bed tray and set my laptop up on it for me while I was "stuck" in bed after my hyster LOL. I would go through "withdrawals" if I didn't talk to my friends here! I have actually made a few good friends along the way too. This site really is a great help in many ways. Even after your hyster, there are many other forums you might want to check out too.

Good luck... it'll be over before you know it!

Response to those who wonder "why?"

I really didn't have much of a choice with my hysterectomy. It had to be done. It was kinda weird whe you tell other people. I mean I had kidney surgery before that was laproscopic and the recover was nothing compared to this but people gave me more sympathy for that than the hysterectomy.

Have you noticed how men (not my DH, he has been GREAT) but men at work or friends husbands don't know what to saw when you say hysterectomy? They were like ick "women problems" its like you are discussing your period or something. I find it funny!!

I am sure you have spent much time and energy thinking of what is best for you. If you are like many of us you have researched many options and you and your doctor have come to this decision. Remember, all decisions you make are yours and you need not explain to anyone if you don't want to. Best wishes and good health.
