Do all hysters. require bowel prep?

No bowel prep for me - and no enema, yay!! No food or drink was allowed after midnight the night before surgery. My own personal bowel prep consisted of a daily yogurt the week before, and a salad for dinner the night before surgery, just to be really light.

I had a LSH no bowel prep for me,just clear liquid diet the day before,then nothing after midnight.

i had to do two bottles of magnesium citrate.. if you have to do it.... drink it cold...poured over ice ..mixed with gingerale and suck it through a straw.....

it wasn't that horrible that way......

No bowel prep for me either. I was able to eat a light breakfast before 7am on the morning of my op which was scheduled at 2pm.

I had TVH/BSO and my surgeon required me to do a bowel prep that involved 1 bottle of magnesium citrate and some laxative tablets. He usually does not require the prep, but I have endometriosis with involvement of my large and small intestines. I got the flavored cherry mag citrate and mixed it with sierra mist soda. As long as it was really cold it wSn;t too bad. And a tip I picked up while working in the medical field myself, drinking it through a straw also helps to bypass the taste buds to some degree. But don;t worry, it is worth it to help give yourself a better chance for the best possible outcome for your surgery. Please post anytime if the sisters can help!

No bowel prep for me thank goodness..... I was worried because of the other repairs, but I worried for nothing!!

I had liquids only the day before. That afternoon i had to drink bottle no. 1 of magnesium citrate...yuck! was not so bad, one bm episode..I thought, i can do this. three house later, had to drink bottle no. 2. that one did the trick. i spent the better part of the next 6.5 hrs. on the toilet. i nearly passed out after the last one..and even though it was after midnight, my husband insisted i have a couple sips of gatorade. was not pleasant.

I had TAH-my surgeon required nothing except nothing after midnight for a 7am surgery. I have irritable bowel and decided to do liquids 24hours before, just for my own peace of mind. I ended up with tummy action (grumbling and gas) the afternoon following surgery, so didn't have to have bm before leaving. I did get a nasty stomach virus 3 days post op and was pretty miserable, also needed antibiotics and so really battled diarrhea all of first week post-op-not fun!!

I am having a TAH and am required to have a bowel prep due to possible outer tumor that may have caused bowel issues. He told me he wants flat bowels so he can examine them, remove my possible 5 moth pregnancy size tumor along with some pokingaround while he is in there to make sure there are no other issues.
