Will I still go for yearly's? No uterus, cervix....

I'm a bit confused. I had uterus, tubes, and cervix removed. I still have both ovaries. Will there still be a need to have my yearly exams? What would he check? I know I will go for my yearly mammograms, but there's not much to check inside. Thanks for your help. This place is a safe place to ask questions you don't feel comfortable even asking your closest friends.

Blessings,
Christi

My doctor wants me to keep coming for a while yet, as I am on HRT and we need to keep a check on that, as well as breast exams.

Re: Will I still go for yearly's? No uterus, cervix....

Hi Christie,

I had the same question for my GP when I saw him at my 6-week appointment. He assured me annual checks were still required. Not only can they still do a pelvic exam, there are other items that need to be checked on an annual basis, just to make sure things are kept on track (Blood pressure, weight, blood tests, etc.)

The good thing is that the whole speculum experience is off the table!

Re: Will I still go for yearly's? No uterus, cervix....

I amost posted this exact post myself today. I, too, only have my two ovaries and wonder how my doc will keep an eye on them as I am prone to cysts, etc. Yearly ultrasounds or something? I will find out on Tuesday, it's my top question.

I had a scare two weeks before my surgery when I had my yearly mammo; they called me in to come right back as they "saw something" so after an anxious trip back and second mammogram, it just turned out to be scar tissue from my 2001 breast reduction. Whew! Glad they were thorough, though, and didn't just dismiss it! But that was a scary call to get!

I don't have ovaries or anything either, so I don't see a need for a yearly with him except for hormone or mammo issues? Looking forward to no longer having yearly or twice yearly transvaginal ultra sounds, etc.

IMHO there is more to women's health than just checking your female parts. It's not good to get out of the routine of regular annual checks. Mind you, now that I am over 50 my health has become a higher priority compared to decades past!

Re: Will I still go for yearly's? No uterus, cervix....

I am 5 months s/p total hyster and my doc told me that she could not remove my entire cervix because my fibroid had completely distorted it's shape, so I thought I needed to come back in yearly for a pap for that reason. I had an appointment last month and she told me she only needed to see me bi-annually, has anyone else been informed of this information as well?? I am concerned that she should be checking my HRT and breast checks....???

My dr. Also said I needed to come back yearly (I got to keep one ovary). I'm thinking I may only go every other year unless I'm having problems.

Hmmm, so interesting how different all these Dr's are!

My cervix was very misshappen, odd, a mess basically due to similar problem as your's, so that was his reason to take the time to remove it all, at least that is what he told me/did.

I wondered that too. My dr said yes. I think you can still get vaginal cancer? Plus, if you don't see your PCP every year you need a BP check, etc.
