has surgery made you feel older
I feel a lot younger! I had a lot of pain before the op and now its gone - that in itself has made a huge difference - I'm sure I stand straighter for one thing!!

has surgery made you feel older
HI!!
I'm about 14 months post op. Hmmmmm, does a hyst age you??? Well, technically I suppose you could say that since having BSO also you are now instantly in menopause, that your "timing" has been moved up some depending on how far away from menopause you were anyway.
But do I feel, or look any older, or do I notice that I have aged? No, no, a thousand times no! Comparing the way I feel now, to the way I felt for a couple of years before, I don't know when I felt this good. DH & I went for a bike ride yesterday, the first time my bike has been out of the garage in YEARS. I am a tiny bit sore today, nothing like I was expecting last night. I have even noticed that I've been running or at least jogging up the stairs lately! I spent what seems like years shuffling around, not feeling like doing anything. Last summer one of my employees (who has only worked for me for a couple of years) told me that I had become a new person.
I have a 2 year old grandson and people are always mistaking me for his mom, and can't believe that I'm a grandmother. My DD is 24, people ask me if I was 12 when she was born (I'm 47)
To answer the HRT question: I am taking Estradiol (generic name for Estrace) 1mg/day.
Best wishes!

hrt
Hi Samantha and you're very welcome. You sure got alot of positive responses here, huh? As far as hrt, I'm on the Vivelle dot .075. Started on .05 the day after surgery, but at about five weeks post started to have horrible night sweats and dr bumped me up a little. I'm doing fine with this dosage. Still get the night sweats once in a while but they're bareable. I don't know how ladies with a BSO get through it without hrt. I NEED it. Good luck with your surgery and recovery. Beth

has surgery made you feel older
The first time I had major surgery, I was 40. No organs were removed (just a large ovarian cyst and a few uterine fibroids), but I remember thinking: Okay, now I must be getting old: parts of my body are failing! :-) I recovered quickly afterwards, though, so it was just a temporary concern.
I just had a TAH/BSO at age 46. I'm going through the hot-flash thing because I have to wait until June to start estrogen, but I definitely don't feel like the experience is making me old. On the other hand, before the surgery, lying around on the couch every night in pain from endometriosis was making me feel completely decrepit! (I'd just finished grad school and was used to hanging around with people 15 or more years younger, so being slowed down by chronic pain was really depressing!) Now, six weeks after surgery, I still have a few twinges left to heal, but I'm full of energy -- in fact, I never did get the massive (temporary) post-op fatigue that some women report. I'm confident that things are only going to get better!
BTW, my mother had a TAH/BSO at 51, and had to stop taking estrogen when she was 59. However, she still looked young for her age through her seventies. She just turned 84 and is still doing well.
Best wishes,
Juliepede

has surgery made you feel older
I woudn't say I feel older physically. Emotionally, yes. I no longer want to put up with people's crap. Life is too short. I've had to learn what a real friend is, and having gone through this hyst, it made me wiser.
It just made me realize what's important in life and what things aren't worth worrying about.
Hope this makes sense. lol

has surgery made you feel older
I have heard about the aging thing as well. I was told 2 years ago that I needed to have the hyst. I put it off after researching and finding the HERS website. It seems to be the place where everyone that has had a bad experience goes and they are very anti-hyst. Worked for me since I didn't want the surgery and found I didn't trust my gyn at the time. Bounced around a bunch of gyn's and finally found one that I think I can trust. Helps when they take the time to really explain the why's of surgery. All of the ladies (even my dr) I have talked to about hyster have said it was the best thing they did. You know things are getting pretty bad when hubby starts talking about rethinking the surgery thing out of the blue. He was against my having the surgery 2 years ago, bad experience with surgery, so didn't want me to have it unless it was really really necessary. Hope the 'brain fog' I've heard about on this site is real and lifts after surgery. DH complains that I don't retain information like I used to.
No date set yet, looks like sometime in August.
