Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Dec 20-Dec 26,2010
If your hysterectomy was between Dec 20-Dec 26,2010 this is the place to post your progress during your hysterectomy recovery.
If you have a question about your recovery, please start a new thread to receive answers and support for your concerns instead of including the question in your update! There is information on how to start a new thread in this link: New Here? or you can use this link: Post a New Topic in the Post-Op forum.
Post how you are doing here when you are home and well enough to sit a few minutes at your computer.
We hope you are recovering well with plenty of rest and water and a bit of walking. Don't forget to pamper the princess!
How to use the Recovery Progress Reports thread:
- 1. This thread is for the purpose of sharing updates on your recovery as you heal from your hysterectomy.
- 2. Generally, ONE or TWO posts on this thread per member/per day is adequate to share your daily progress and to share encouragement with your surgery week Sisters.
- 3. Remember to start a new thread on the Post-Op message board to ask your questions.
- 4. The Progress Report threads will be moved at approximately 8 weeks post-op to the Date Club forum inside the HysterSisters clubhouse.
- 5. Remember all the love and support you got here as a pre-op member? Now it's YOUR turn to give back to the women in the Pre-Op Hysterectomy Support forum. Extend your hand and your hugs in replies to our pre-op ladies in waiting. This will complete our circle of women helping women!
- 6. You can also share support and experiences with post-op members in all phases of recovery in the Post-Op Hysterectomy Support forum by replying on the new threads they create.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Dec 20-Dec 26,2010
to the Post-Op forum!
You made it this far!
But you may also be having the thoughts of "now what?"
I can remember back to my recovery time wondering if I was "normal" or not. Even though I heard and knew we all heal at different rates I wasn't really sure what that meant. I also didn't know what all healing entailed or what progress I should be making. There were more questions and emotions so it was wonderful to have HysterSisters and my surgery week Recovery thread where I could find other women who were experiencing the same things.
The purpose of this thread is to give you a place to update us on how you're doing as you recover and begin to heal from surgery. I will be hanging out with you in this thread, to keep you company during your initial recovery period (remember initial recovery is 2 to 8 weeks, depending on type of surgery with full recovery up to a year).
I will be serving as your Resource Assistants. I'll be checking in on the thread daily providing some answers, pointing you to other resources on the site and directing you to forums where you might get more answers from members farther along on their recovery journey. There are a lot of resources on this site and we want to help you find them.
I will direct you to the Post-Op forums or specific articles about issues you may be having in your recovery. Things to help you get more information.
Initially I expect a lot of questions about swelly belly, gas and bathroom habits. Also emotions are to be expected!
Remember to:- Drink plenty of water ,
- Walk a bit ,
- and most importantly
I look forward to being a part of your journey to post-hysterectomy health and happiness!
G.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Dec 20-Dec 26,2010
I had my surgery yesterday 12/20/10 and got home today at 1:00p.m. So far all is good. I am peeing fine and passing gas! Have not had a bowel movement yet but I had two before the surgery. I had uterus, cervix and left ovary and tube removed. Dr. told hubby that the tube was swollen and black and blue and is probably what caused all my pain. The staff at the hospital was awesome and so is my hubby.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Dec 20-Dec 26,2010
Had surgery yesterday morning and left 10p last night. They told me I could stay 'til 10a if I wanted, but they were being really stingy with the pain meds and barely gave me any morphine (no pump was given, I had to keep asking and only got three small shots of it while I was there, was refused about 50% of the time). They kept trying to give me Vicodin instead, even though I told them several times (and my doctor during my pre-op appt.) that Vicodin does jack all for me. They were understaffed and I kept having to wait forever every time I needed to pee, which by the time I was ready to leave I needed to go every 30 min. I also had a roommate who was getting increasingly on my nerves (not her fault, I know she was having a bad experience and I didn't make any indication to her, but she was making me stress up and hurt more).
Anyway, it was a good decision to leave since I have better pain meds at home (I never got below a 7 all day over there and was mostly at 9 level pain, which I kept telling them) and heating and cooling pads and can sleep without interruption. They were making lots of hints they wanted me to go anyway, since at least 3 different nurses mentioned I could go anytime I wanted to several times each. Since the only point of staying at the hospital was to get morphine, and make sure I didn't have any severe reactions, I was more than happy to go anyway, I hate the hospital environment.
One of my biggest worries, since this was my first surgery of any kind, was not going under, but I actually have lost a big chunk of my memory both before and after the surgery and don't remember talking to my doctor or being wheeled into the OR. My fiance tells me I was quite amusing, but didn't leave him any really good blackmail material.
About 30 hours past surgery now, and pain is around 5 to 7 (Mankowski scale). Burped a lot right out of surgery but no passing gas yet (I can feel movement in my tummy though, so not worried yet, I have sluggish bowels and I doubt I will have a BM by day 4, especially since I did a bowel prep before the surgery). Yesterday I kept first liquid food down and then threw up heavier liquid second meal, both in hospital.
First solid food I ate today stayed down just fine (chunky peanut butter sandwich on wheat and jello) and probably trying another solid meal later (probably thick soup). My nausea is 97% gone today whereas yesterday I was pretty nauseous all day.
If the doc said anything to me after the surgery, I don't remember it, but my fiance said she told him the surgery went faster than expected, really excellent, and I got to keep my ovaries, as I wanted, and my endo was not too extensive. I figure I can get more info at my 2 week post-op appt. I had no problems with blood pressure, and my temp has stayed pretty steadily in the 97s, which is normal for me (I run cold).
I have 5 small incisions on my abdomen, which only had to be covered with incision glue, no stitches, not even steri-strips. The only one which is giving me trouble is the belly button incision, it's more sore than the others and I had a small dot of blood leak out. Anyway, overall the experience has been a lot better than I had feared, so far.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Dec 20-Dec 26,2010
Allrighty, Ladies. I did it and I was so afraid last night. And then I got here to the castle. Ok, no binder. I think I would like one. The cathader is wickedly nasty uncomfortable , and the nurses won't remove it. I've sat up and stood up for a second. I brought in the Lindt Lindor Trufles...and I'm not positive it has helped, but I do like eating them.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Dec 20-Dec 26,2010
Hello Ladies. As the days started to approach to my surgery I was becoming very, very nervous. Then I reached my Castle and the nurses and staff were incredible. The surgery went great according to my dr. I had uterus and cervix removed and fibroid s on right ovary removed. Dr said that tumor on uterus was about as big as golf ball. I had a spinal for pain control and it was great. No pain in getting it..woke up on my on in recovery room, nurse said that was great, I guess I am a bit of a character when on pain meds, I started talking to the Dr and nurses and Telling the Dr that he needed to take his kids Christmas shopping and spend more time with them. This is important. Does he hear me....Apparently the nurses and he got a big chuckle out of this...Anyway, when I got to my room within the 1st hour I wanted to get up and sit on the couch and Dr said it was ok. The catheter was bad, just cumbersome. I really just remember wanting to eat like crazy. I was to be at the hospital at 9:30-which I was, but didn't get into surgery until about 11:30. Oh and ladies, when the nurse was putting my IV in she put something in to flush it out, I had a weird taste in my mouth and she noticed me trying to taste it, she said that I was dehydrated, and that I had followed the Drs orders, no food or drink past mid night. That is how that they can tell. Just FYI. Anyway, I am on pain meds now, so this post may be all over the place, buy just know my experience so far has been great, I have peed but no bowl movement so far. I have had gas. I am experiencing some lower back pain as dr said I might. I am drinking plenty of fluids. Mostly apple juice and water, and an walking around the house nice and slow. want to get those bowls working. lol...will post more in a few days....oh and my belly is not swelly. that is nice too.....love you guys and this site so much....until next time....

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Dec 20-Dec 26,2010
I had surgery on 12/20 and came home yesterday. I'm doing pretty good now that the gas pains have subsided. I'm still sore but am able to get up and walk around a little a few times a day. On the plus side the doctor left my ovaries in.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Dec 20-Dec 26,2010
My 1st time getting out of the bed ystrday was kinda strange, sensation wise... I swear, I could feel the force of gravity on the bowels or something. I got a shot in the stomach for blood clotting and have some pain where I believe my meticulous Doc removed some some adhesions. I'm going off the pain pump now, going to motrin and vicodan, gabapentin. And peanut butter cookies. Seriously, none of these nurses have eaten any of the candies I brought...not even the wrapped ones. O, I wanted to mention also, no sub q pump after all and very light, weepiness from the incision. But really I don't feel too bad at all. Walking around slowly but fine. And just got the nicotine patch and I feel calmer. Adios for now, Amigas
