Feelings of sadness over upcoming surgery

I posted earlier today about having anxiety regarding my surgery next week. The past several days, especially now today being home alone and having time to relax I realize that I am still having feelings from a previous miscarriage that happened over 5 years ago. I have a beautiful 4 1/2 daughter who I am crazy about and am thankful that she is healthy and that my pregnancy with her was complication free. It was after my delivery that things started to fall apart and why I am now having the hyst.
Has anyone else experienced the feelings of loss from previous losses before this surgery and is it normal to go through these stages? I'm also wondering what to expect afterwards as well and if these feelings may be more prominent.
Thank you for your loving support, I am grateful for this site!!

Re: Feelings of sadness over upcoming surgery

What you are feeling is VERY normal! There are a lot of emotions that go with this surgery and feeling sad about your loss is one of them. Please know that you are not alone.

I never had any kids and that was a hard pill for me to swallow. I still struggle at times dealing with my loss but it does get easier with time.

What you are about to go through is bound to bring up those feelings from your loss, but keep your chin up and know it does get better.

After surgery, these feelings may be more prominent for awhile. Your hormones will be all out of whack for one thing. Also, just like your body will need time to heal, your heart will need some time as well. Its ok though. Let yourself grieve for all you have lost and lean on us to help you through it.

Re: Feelings of sadness over upcoming surgery

You are not alone in your feelings of loss. Feelings of loss and mourning are very normal with a hysterectomy. And I think any time you have loss, it brings up other losses you have had in your life.

This is a difficult surgery to handle physically, mentally, and emotionally. Your uterus is very special, as it housed your daughter. This will take a lot of time to digest, and this will probably go into post-op. In fact, if you are like me, these feelings can intensify after surgery. I still struggle with this and I am more than a year post op.

We are here for you sweetie. We understand what you are going through and will help you through this.

Re: Feelings of sadness over upcoming surgery

I feel the same way. I am 11 days to my surgery. I think about my beautiful 18yr daughter, my three miscarriages, and that I finally am with the man of my dreams, we have known each other since we were 14yrs and have been together now for 4 yrs. He's never had children and now I won't be able to give that to him. It HURTS, I don't want my uterus out of my body, even though its killing me. I joined this site two days ago, just an emotional wreck. But I have found TOTAL comfort in knowing I'M NORMAL. What a relief. I think I would be just a chocolate mess if I didn't have this site. I know you are going to be okay, and I know I will too. It helps to know your not alone....
