post-op 1 week constipation and odor
I had my surgery 1 week ago. Three nights ago I tried for an hour to have a bowel movement. Was stuck & wouldn't come out, it was like clay. I took all the stool softeners, laxatives, suppositories & none of them worked. I was so desperate after sweating & screaming in the bathroom I used a fleet enema & that finally worked. During all the confusion took a piece of exlax chocolate. Since then, havent had a solid stool & all trips to the bathroom are painful. Worried that maybe I shouldnt have taken exlax or used the enema. Part of my hysterectomy was to repair my rectocele as well as remove damaged mesh. They saved my ovaries & cervix but removed the tubes for some reason. I am also having foul smelling discharge which I recognize from my last surgery last year after my ablation & sling. Still bleeding, I have incisions across my belly as well as inside my vagina. Wondering about the constipation. foul smelling discharge. tight feeling in my belly

Re: post-op 1 week constipation and odor
Hi angelalisa,
Please call your doctor and let them know what's going on with you. I'm sure they will either have a suggestion or want to see you.
If your doctor is not available, you may want to consider heading to the ER.
My main worry is that you had a rectocele repair and then took all of the softeners, exlax, and enema. Another worry is the foul smelling discharge. Discharge can often have an odor, but sometimes it can indicate you have an infection.
You really don't want to take any chances. You only get one chance to heal properly, so take excellent care of yourself over the next several weeks. Listen to your body, ask for help, be proactive, and always follow orders to a tee!!!
Keep us posted!
