whole body soreness?

Since surgery on Thursday I have been sore all over. I knew there would be some pain bc of the gas but this is crazy. It feels almost like they put me to sleep, rolled me into a sheet, rolled me off the bed, kicked and beat me! Only thing proving otherwise is I am not covered in bruises. My ribs hurt, my shoulders, my hips, my legs, my back, my neck. Seriously everywhere. Hubby asked if i wanted a body rub, it was hard having to say no bc it seriously hurts just to touch me.

Can anyone explain this?

Re: whole body soreness?

my neck, upper back, arms and legs were all sore. I think it is the position they put you in when you have a davinci surgery. I'm not exactly sure what that is, but on my surgical report it said they tucked my arms then taped them to the table to get me in position. My neck is really, really sore.

hope you feel better soon!

Re: whole body soreness?

You have to keep in mind that you just had major surgery. Most if us are surprised by the amount of pain there is. One thing to help is to make sure that you are taking your pain meds as scheduled. You want to stay ahead of the pain. Your body can't concentrate on its healing, if its concentrating on its pain. Also, although you may not feel like it, try to walk a little each hour that you are not resting. It may not seem like it right now, but it does get better. Hang in there sweetie.

Good morning Dragonflynbama, I hope you are feeling a little better today. I had my surgery on Tuesday, and the nurse practitioner who works with my surgeon told me that I would be sore afterwards because of the gas they use to distend your belly during the surgery. He told me that it "goes everywhere, under your ribs, your back, to your shoulders". He was right! The first night I had chest pains, then it settled in my right shoulder. It felt like I had been shot! I have been very fortunate because I have been receiving hyperbaric oxygen treatments. They have made all the difference in the world! When I started, the pain in my shoulder was a 7, when I came out of the chamber 90 minutes later, it was a 1, and was completely gone the next day. The tech at the hyperbaric place explained to me that some of the oxygen they use during surgery gets absorbed into your blood stream, thus allowing it to travel through your body. She said it is essentially like the "bends", what happens to divers when they return to the surface too quickly. That is why hyperbaric helps. She also told me she has successfully treated other post-hysterectomy women, and she usually submits it to insurance as a "decompression" injury. I don't know yet if my insurance will pay, but I am glad I had the opportunity to get this treatment. I also go to a free standing hyperbaric center, not hospital based, they charge $200 a session, the hospital where I had my surgery charges $1600-1800 a session.
Good luck, I hope you feel better every day!

Re: whole body soreness?

The position they put you in during daVinci is called "steep trendelenburg" where they strap you to the table than then tilt it steeply so that your head is down and your pelvic region is in the air. Your mushy innards like bladder and intestines slip downslope away from your pelvic organs to conveniently stay out of the way. I was definitely sore all over and had one bruise on the back. Luckily, that's the only discomfort I suffered. It went away after a few weeks.

I also had surgery thurs, and have been feeling quite good other than chest, shoulder, and back pain. Yest my chest felt like I was trying to breath outside in frigid temps, today my mid-back hurts so bad I'm sitting on a heating pad. Just taking my pain meds, laying low and hoping in a few days it'll be better!
