Re: constipation

I'm taking probiotics (culturelle) they put my digestive system back to normal, my dr recommended. Miralax worked for me but gave me cramps/pain so I just stick to lots of water, pear juice and Colace. I started having constipation issues again cause I needed to go back to Vicodin and/or Tramadol for a really bad low back pain I do have.

Re: constipation

I think it various as to how long it lasts. The first week was the worst but as soon as I made the changed to what I was eating and drinking to very clean foods and the above mentioned I was way better. Oh and short regular walks helps too. I'm nearly five weeks out and I have no problems any more. Absolutely everything improves with time. It's tough this early in to see the end of the tunnel but it's there!

Re: constipation

Hang in there. It seems to take some time to get the intestines working again. I suspect it is a worse issue for some than others. I am 4 weeks out from total VH and ovaries removed.... I stopped prescription pain meds day three. The first several days were rough with no bowel funtion, and I sent hubby to buy stool softeners and he accidentally got laxitives. I was stuck so started taking them, and after being REALLY stuffed and uncomfortable for a day and a half I finally went. Not fun! Then I had to keep taking them, or I would not go. It seemed like my intestines were sluggish, and not working things down. I even threw up once (not recommended!) Then at 2 weeks I was freaking out about being reliant on laxitives, so I went and got stool softeners on way home from post op and started eating 4 prunes 4X a day, plus nuts, bran, etc. and took one stool softener.... NOTHING. I caved and took a laxative. Then tried again, and this time took the max recommended.... 3 softeners in the evening.... one day, nothing, and uncomfortable, but the second day I had success, and have been doing the 3 pills a day ever since. Things are seeming to get more normal now, and my plan is to reduce to 2 pills, then 1, then be off them. If you can avoid the laxitives I would strongly advise it, but if you must, get off them quickly. Hope you are successful. Hang in there!
