scar tissue

Hello, I am new here and so thankful to have this opportunity to ask real women my questions. I am so nervous about my surgery, I am having, rectocele, cyctocele and I can't remember the name, but about tightening the vaginal area along with removal of unterus. I am afraid that with all of that surgery, I may get scar tissue that would make intercourse painful...has anyone had all of these procedures? Is there scar tissue where it would "get in the way"? I am terribly sorry if I posted in the wrong spot...I am computer challenged...

Welcome to HysterSisters! Being nervous is quite normal and we can all relate.

I had a TVH (total vaginal hysterectomy) and kept my ovaries, but I didn't have the repairs that you're going to have. There are many women around here who did and hopefully, will stop by and share some words of wisdom with you.

I didn't develop any scar tissue afterwards and I haven't had any problems with intercourse since my surgery over 4 years ago. Of course, no one can predict what your outcoming will be.

While you're preparing for your surgery, be sure to check the Pre-Op page and Checkpoints. You'll find a lot of helpful information.

Don't forget to add your hysterectomy date to your profile so you'll get the best support available and be included in that day's best wishes!

Welcome again! Make yourself at home!

Hi (((ajmj))) I had a vaginal hysterectomy (TVH) with cystocele and rectocele repairs (A&P repairs) and ovary removal (BSO) six years ago. Usually there is no extra scar tissue that results that would make penetration painful or impossible, but it can happen and it did happen to me. I ended up having a second procedure done about 3 months after the hysterectomy to remove the scar tissue, and that took care of it. But in all her many years of practice, I was my DR's only patient to have that happen (lucky me! ).

You can minimize the formation of tough scar tissue and maximize the rate of healing, as well as increase the moisture and elasticity of the vagina, by using vaginal estrogen after your surgery once your DR says it's OK - I would ask about that possibility if you're concerned.

Good luck with your surgery!

s,
-Linda

Thank you for responding. Was the second surgery difficult to recover from? Or was it easier than the origional surgery?

It was very much easier. I had it done as a day surgery in a surgery center next to the hospital and went home that afternoon. A few days later I was able to drive 11 hours each way to a tournament with my kids, and by two weeks later it was like it never happened.
