Leaking Incision

Had my TAH on 08/15/06, left castle morning of 08/17/06 doing great! Yesterday the door bell rang and I was in bed taking a nap. I went to get up and my pj bottoms were soaked as was part of my top. At first I thought, wow - i had an accident. But then realized it wasn't coming from there and that the wetness and blood was coming from my incision. Luckily, it was my parents at the door so my mom called the dr's office. It was at closing time and my dr wasn't there, but the nice nurse and a partner dr stayed and waited until I could get to the office. Apparently, my body wasn't absorbing the liquid around my incision and it had to come out somewhere! They cleaned out the opened area and gave me bandages to change. I just cannot believe how much came out in just about 1/2 hour. It was an awful lot of liquid (water and blood mix). My DH said it was at least one cup.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Leaking Incision

I was pretty lucky in my incision healing and closing up pretty well. But I'm almost 4 weeks out and I have that watery mix coming out vaginally. I guess you're right, if can't be absorbed it has to come out somewhere?! I had to go out and buy more maxi pads, too!

Leaking Incision

Happened to me, too. After having small amounts of blood oozing now and then, for some reason (just when a friend called around) it was like the old Niagara days of my period! Perhaps not as much as a cup, but still...It only happened once, and from what I can garner from this site, this is within the range of "normal". I get seepage less and less now - use a sanitary pad attached to to the inside of granny knickers, over your belly. Maybe that will help (especially if it *does* happen again) - they certainly wick away the blood. Good luck!
