Emotional issues

One of my greatest concerns right now is how awful my PMS/perimenopause symptoms are - moodiness, tearful, sad, irritable, forgetful, etc... Yet I read some of the posts that indicate all of these post-hysterectomy. I'm afraid to do something which is going to make difficulties with depression, anxeity and memory even worse!! Am I just going from the fire to the frying pan?

Bethel, are you planning to keep your ovaries? If you do, you may still experience the symptoms of PMS, as before your surgery.

I had a TVH/BSO. I was extremely moody for about six weeks after my hysterectomy. After that, my hormones must have stabilized, because I returned to my former sunny disposition. For most women who have their ovaries removed, once the initial recovery period of six to eight weeks, the mood swings are temporary.

I hope this helps.

Best wishes,
Helen

Emotional issues

Hi there! I asked many questions of my dr because I was able to keep my ovaries. He told me that if I described my PMS as bloating, cramping, and pressure it would be gone. But if I described my PMS as crabby, sad, mood swings, ovulation pain, etc it would stay the same. Hope this helps with your decision.
