Hot flashes/sweating postmenopausal, post 20 days surgery

Hi, I am 59-years old, postmenopausal, and had my LAVH BSO surgery 20 days ago. I felt really well until about 5 days ago when I started getting hot flashes and episodes of breaking out in sweat over my entire body. I also feel in the last couple of days that I am not able to breathe as easily, i.e., slightly congested and more of an effort to take deep breaths. Is anyone else having these symptoms? Since I am post menopausal I did not expect to get hot flashes/sweating.
Thanks for any feedback.
Lynn

Re: Hot flashes/sweating postmenopausal, post 20 days surgery

Hi Lynn-

I am only 6 days post-op and have not had many hot flashes...I go straight to pouring sweat, shakiness, and weakness. I am 42 and had early menopause die to fibroids and poly-cycstic ovaries. I did not expect to have heavy sweats either.

I am getting throbbing feelings as well in my stomach, as if my uterus were still there. My biggest concerns are based on the rumors of what has happened to other women... infection, prolapsed bladder, urine leakage, poor sexual interest.

I just want to be regular. For now, I am just very tired. I have been forcing myself to stay awake, participate in life, and be present for my family, though I want to sleep all day. The doctors suggested spending more time sitting up and walking a bit more each day. I am on the mend, but, still nervous and worried about what the future will hold.

Re: Hot flashes/sweating postmenopausal, post 20 days surgery

Hi Penina,
Thanks for your reply. I think maybe our ovaries produce a few more hormones than my doctor led me to believe after menopause. I think all of us have those concerns about something prolapsing, infection, urine leakage, etc. You are still very early in your recovery and probably still under the influence of anesthesia. I made it a point to sit up (at my computer) as much as possible, and then realized that sitting was making me hurt. I guess we all need to take things a little at a time and one day at a time. I wish you a speedy recovery!
