Hysterectomy Gift ?????

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone else had thought about getting themselves a post op gift?? Something special to mark the occassion.

For me, it has been decades of reproductive hell. I am 32 with no kids and my op is scheduled for July 13th. I have suffer horrible bleeding for years. It started from puberty. I didn't get first period till I was 13 almost 14 and I have NEVER been regular. I would go years without it and then years with it non-stop. The last 5 years have been the worst. I have lost so much blood my blood count was 6 and I had to have a transfusion.

I would go thru the largest overnight pads with in an hour. At one point tried wearing Depends but they didn't absorb the blood right. I had Novasure done Janurary 2009 and it failed and the bleeding came back full force and with 2x the pain. Oh, the pain is so much worse now. I have it all. Fibriods, cycsts, endo and P.O.S. Most of it will go away after my surgery. Except keeping the ovaries, which means keeping the P.O.S. but at least the bleeding will stop.

Because of all I am celebrating the fact I will be able to wear light pants and not have to carry my suitcase of suppies with me. Granted, I am losing the ability to give birth to a child but, I am getting some of my life back.

So why not get my self a gift to celebrate?? I am personally looking at some nice diamond right hand rings. Something I can look at and say I made it. I am going to be ok now. I want to know what your thoughts are on this and if you had a couple hundred bucks to spend what would be your gift?? Thanks for listening.

That's a cool idea. Why didn't I think of that. Heck yes! Get yourself something nice.

I think I'd take a nice trip.

Re: Hysterectomy Gift ?????

I think that sounds perfect. My surgery is scheduled for the day after yours-July 14. I also am going to do something special for myself. I went and looked at diamond rings this past weekend. I've narrowed it down between two. I also suffered for ten years. Heavy bleeding, fibriods, adenomyosis, and horrible, sharp pain. I was always too afraid to fix things. Now I am ready, and trying to have very little fear. I'd say buy the ring. Every time you look down at it remember how much courage you had to change things, and how you have a brand new begining now. I'd also buy a much smaller purse- since you won't need to bring the whole bathroom cabinet with you anymore! Blessings, and I hope you have a speedy recovery!

Re: Hysterectomy Gift ?????

When I am all done healing, I get new underwear. Nice ones. No more, well cheapie ones since they will just get ruined when I get a super flow that the pad doesn't all catch right away. I will get pretty ones that don't have to be white so they can be bleached. Also, the $15/ month I was spending on BC pills will be spent on new clothes once I lose some weight now that I can exercise.

Re: Hysterectomy Gift ?????

Ladies, these are all fabulous ideas. Especially the new underwear. I can't wait to throw those pads and "special" underwear out and yes, get a smaller purse. Not to have to bring my entire medicine cabinet with me everywhere will be bliss.

Sending out good vibes to each and everyone of you for a healthy recovery.

Re: Hysterectomy Gift ?????

LOL.. My first purchase after I recover will be a pair of WHITE pants!!!

I just haven't figured out what size they will be-- just before my last stay at the castle for tubo ovarian abcesses, which are the catalyst for my hysterectomy-- I started a portion control diet of my own making. I can have whatever I want, just have to limit the portions, and since April 16, I have lost 30 pounds!! I already have gone down a size in pants, and the ones I specifically purchased for a special event in July don't fit any longer!!!
