hyst in 2 weeks!!!

Hi everyone!I'm having my h.in 2 weeks and I'd like to know what should I do NOW and what should I take with me in the hospital,thanks,Corina.

There are great suggestions in the pre-op section. Ideas about getting your recovery room prepareded, what to have on hand food wise post-op, all sorts of wonderful ides and suggestions. I would hit there and see what seems good to you.

Just look at the top of the page where there is the listing across that says "Hyserectomy Checkpoints, Hysterectomy Options, Pre-Op, Post-Op, Hormones", etc. That Pre-Op pages has a ton of great advice.

One thing that I found very helpful was stocking my pantry and freezer with easy to heat and eat food. I cooked some meals ahead of time and froze them. I also bought some of my family's favorites along with fruit juices, puddings, popcicles, jello etc. I also requested food from my friends and family who asked how they could help for my recovery

I took way too much to the hospital. I used very little. I wore the hospital gowns ( less laundry to take home ). I had no concentration and didn't even open the books that I took. I did use my robe and slippers for the trip home. What I found very nice was my favorite pillow from home ( don't like skimpy hospital pillows ), my tummy pillow, and my ear plugs to soften the hospital noise.

If you live alone, be sure to get anything done or purchased that will require lifting. For instance, make sure there is salt in the water softener, and make sure you have a couple of months worth of pet food and kitty litter. Also, there are certain drugs and vitamins that you shouldn't take in the weeks prior to surgery. Your doctor should have told you this, but mine neglected to; I only knew because I had surgery for something else last year.
