Soooo many questions! LAVH sched 09/17/14
Hello ladies...I have a billion questions but first let me give you background info
I'm 30 years old, have 3 children (youngest is 9), I work full time and am married. I have had heavy bleeding (about 3 wks out of the month) and extremely bad what I thought was PMS for about 7 months. It got so bad that I went through 2 boxes of super plus tampons in 2 days at one point! That's when I broke down and found a doc. I found out I have an enlarged uterus and fibroids...one is 6 cm. I had my tubes tied 9 years ago, so since I didn't plan on having other children and birth control makes me extremely sick, my doc and I decided a hysterectomy is the best option for me. Now onto my questions
I'm an extremely active person. My children are in sports, I eat healthy and exercise every day...i am ALWAYS on the go doing something! The thought of being stuck at home for anything longer than 1 week has me completely stressed out! Is there anyone out there that has a fast, smooth recovery story they can share?
I am only wanting to take off 3 weeks at the most for recovery and since I have a desk job, do you think that's possible?
This may seem a lil vein, but I recently lost 25 pounds and am in the best shape I've ever been in, so I'm worried about "swelly belly" afterwards and not working out for 6 weeks
Any advice or stories are appreciated!

Smooth recovery will come down to you resting and healing.everything inside has th heal so you must be careful.three weeks and back to desk job may be ok if dr says but sitting at desk all day may be too much.I would imagine major work outs are not going to happen quickly and you will find your energy levels lower for a while.I am always on the move but I am post op three weeks and still home.I do house cleaning for a living and only took a week off for giving birth on last two kids then took them with me.this having to slow down and heal is frustrating but necessary.

Hi I'm 31 and I took the entire 6 weeks off work and it took me until week 8 to stop sleeping everyday when I got off work. I have a desk job but I do more than just sit I get up and conduct appointments and take walk-ins which at some point I get up off and on. I found that when I first returned to work that I couldn't just sit for long periods of time anyway.
I have children but they went to visit family as soon as school was out (1week post op) so I really didn't have to focus on their needs while they were away although they were a big help to me. I wasn't very much active prior to surgery due to obvious reasons for having surgery.
I can't say that 3 weeks will do you any justice it's all about what happens after you have surgery. My body wasn't ready at 3 weeks to see a job I was still experiencing difficulties with breathing and pain meds that seem to have a negative impact on my body.
If after surgery and you are recovering nicely and your doctor gives you a work clearance and you're up to it I wish you the best at returning to work post up.

Re: Soooo many questions! LAVH sched 09/17/14
I had an abdominal, am 58 (so a lot older than you!) and although I'm active and exercise daily still overweight. I had a fast and easy recovery. I awoke in the hospital pain free, I was up and moving around later that day. Got up the next morning, showered, washed my hair, dressed in my own clothes and then paced the halls til they let me out of there. I was pretty tired, in addition to the surgery I hadn't slept for 2 nites, but the next day my husband took me to a nearby museum to walk around and the supermarket. I has my surgery on Thursday, home on Friday. First thing Monday morning I called my dr to find out when I could drive and if I could use my elliptical. Since I never took any narcotics, she cleared me to drive at one week. I could use my eliptical if I was very careful, so I did that. I went out with friends mon and wed, to lunch at mall a little walking around, etc. Made an appt to get my nails done on Thursday since I could drive, and just kept going. I volunteer at the airport and went there at one week to do a 2 hr orientation session for new volunteers. At 3 weeks I went back to work there, it is only part time, but involves a lot of walking and I was fine. It IS possible to have a quick and easy recovery all while following your drs instructions. Everyone does not have an easy recovery, but LOTS of people do. I could have gone back to a desk job at 3 weeks, and my dr would have let me. I could also exercise, but I did have to take that easy for the first weeks. Be sure your dr knows that you want to get moving as much and as soon as possible so that they tell you what you need to do to make it happen. Also be sure he/she knows that you want to return to work quickly, some drs write you out for longer because they think that you will want to stay out. Go over all of that at your pre op appt so they will know your wishes. Hopefully it will be a good omen that you are having your surgery on my birthday! Best of luck for a successful surgery and very speedy recovery!

Re: Soooo many questions! LAVH sched 09/17/14
I am a very active and hyper person. The thought of having to be off work for 4 weeks totally freaked me out. I did very well after my surgery. I was able to start getting out of the house on day 4. I was told not to drive for 2 weeks. So I had to have a driver. I made myself lay on the couch for part of each day. Some days I was so tired, I had no other option but to rest. I watched a lot of nextflix and played on my ipad to pass some of the time. I was able to start walking twice a day after week 2. I did have the swely belly for about 2 1/2 months. I planned for it in advance by getting some cute skirts and dresses to wear. I am not able to wear all of clothes and was able to keep from gaining any weight. I tried hard to eat heathy and drink lots of water while I was recovering. Good luck and remember to listen to your body and rest when you know you should!!!!!!
