Hysterectomy was yesterday 5/11; pain

Yesterday I was heavily sedated. Today I'm taking ibuprofen and Tylenol to manage pain. Im in recovery so I'm opting out of the narcotics. I had Laproscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy with a Umbilical Hernia Repair. Walking is not easy and very painful today. Urinating is a bit painful. I'm gassy and that hurts too. I wasn't expecting this kind of pain.

Hi,

Things will get better. The urination pain is from the catheter, drink plenty of water. Start a stool softener and something like gas x or peppermint tea for gas. The gas is probably the majority of your pain. When It passes (about 3-4 days), you'll feel tons better. Gas is no joke

the gas is the worst part...once it dissolves, you'll feel better!

and

Though it's a common surgery, it's still major surgery. The best advice for surgical pain management is to stay ahead of / on top of the pain by keeping up with your meds. I'm not very pain tolerant, and relied on the meds to stand up straight.

Some of my favorite resources here are:Also, check out your Recovery Thread at Recovery Progress Report for May 8-14. Recovery Threads are dedicated threads for women who had surgery the same week as you. They are wonderful for getting support, comparing notes, and encouraging others.

Rest well!

Re: Surgery was yesterday; pain

I must admit this was more painful than I expected, even after 3 c-sections. This surgery is no joke.

i had 2 csections and one natural birth and this is completely different. laparoscopic is much different than being cut. but, once the gas dissolves..it will be much easier and you will feel better faster.
