pre-op question

Hi. I'm new to this site and to the idea of having surgery. I am scheduled for surgery on Feb. 16th. I have an 11 cm fibroid, not causing much discomfort (except that I have to go to the bathroom all the time). My doctor says it's not an emergency to do the surgery - it should be based on my schedule. My concern is that my daughter's Bat Mitzvah is scheduled for the end of May. Do you think if I have the surgery in Feb. I'll be ok for the May event, or would you recommend I have the surgery after the Bat Mitzvah?

Hi and !

You don't mention what kind of hysterectomy you may be having. If you could fill out your profile, we as sisters, could have a better idea of what is happening.

I had a TAH (total abdominal hysterectomy - kept ovaries). I needed the full 6-8 weeks of initial recovery time before I felt like normal again.

With your daughter's event being held in May, that gives you three months to recover and that is great! If your recovery goes well and you take care of yourself, I would say that by 12 weeks post op, you would be feeling quite normal and able to handle a little celebration.

If you have a less invasive procedure, your healing time may be lessened. Talk to your doctor about your upcoming plans and get his/her view on it.

Best of luck,

Sarah

Hi nbn,

What type of hyst are you having?? If you would like to reply, it will help us Hyster Sisters with your question.

Generally, for a TAH (Total Abdominal Hysterectomy), it requires a 6-8 weeks recovery time.

Here is Hyster Sisters link that goes over the different hyst types and recovery times. Just scroll down on it.
