Upcoming hysterectomy 6/30: Bowel Prepping. Product recommendations?
So, I have to do full bowel prepping for my robotic TLH:
- Clear liquid diet for 24 hours prior. Suggestions for stuff to help me not feel starved?
- 2 bottles of Magnesium Citrate - any brand/flavor better tasting than others?
- Fleet Enema for early evening before. There are two types: saline vs. oily one. Pros and Cons of either? Really dreading that part - almost more than the surgery, which I supposed is a mixed blessing!
Thanks!

Hello Ihaftawhat
It sounds like you are getting things ready and lined up for the days prior to your surgery. That’s great as you will have what you need when it is time.
As for the clear liquid diet, grab some Gatorade (or even Pedialyte) as it will provide the electrolytes to help your system. Other items to potentially get are jello and broths ( Liquid Diet – What Can I Eat Before Hysterectomy? ).
As for the magnesium citrate, I have heard that the cherry flavor was good (even chilled) though you might ask your doctor’s office if you have to stay away from any certain colors/flavors. With regard to the Fleet Enema, I didn’t realize that there was the choice (saline or oily) though I purchased the saline one. That too might be another question you can ask your physician’s office if they prefer one over the other. It was not my favorite either but I made it through.
Your Pre Op House will be Sunday (6/25/17) where you can meet and share with sisters having surgery the same week as you.
on your upcoming surgery and the hope for an uneventful recovery.

Upcoming hysterectomy 6/30: Bowel Prepping. Product recommendations?
My bowel prep consisted of Dulcolax tablets and Miralax mixed in 64oz of Gatorade so I can't offer help with which flavors and enema is best. With regards to the liquid diet I mixed up a big batch of Jello. I was also allowed Popsicles, Sprite soda, tea, and coffee (minus creamer). I found bottles of Lipton Raspberry White Tea which tasted pretty good and I continue to drink it today. I could also have soup broth but I couldn't do it (didn't care for the taste). So my day consisted of living on Jello and Popsicles.
with your upcoming procedure!

Lemon lime is the less yucky magcitrate, imo. I alternated sips with chicken broth and it really helped me

I prefer the lemon lime magnesium citrate. I also put in the fridge and let it get nice and cold. I drink it with a straw it goes down quicker and taste like a flat 7-up. I also drink a couple of bottles of water while doing this. It will most likely kick in within 30 minutes.

Thanks for the feedback! I ordered the Lemon (mag/cit) and went for the Fleet Saline.
Also ordered a bunch of "clear liquid diet" safe items.
I feel like a shopping maniac. Thankfully some of it is more fun/satisfying than bowel prep products! lol I"m finding there is so much to buy (and do!) for various comfort/practicality/entertainment reasons.

Hi Ihaftawhat -
I also did the lemon mag citrate - cherry sounded too much like cough medicine for me. But, the bottle does say "tasty" which means it is not, IMHO. Definitely chill the stuff - it does help.
Chicken broth is also a good clear liquid to eat. It has enough substance to it that it fools your body into thinking it is getting something. I also liked white grape juice. Check your list (they should give you one). I was allowed to have soda crackers. Something crunchy also helped.
