Bleeding heavy after a D&C?
Hi sisters!
I know I haven't been here since January when I last posted about having a D&C with hysteroscopy from a Dr. who didn't exam me. First off - I went to a 2nd opinion (who is now my dr) and they told me I didn't need it. (relief!). But with in 6 months after trying something, I did end up needing it. But my question is, is it very common to bleed heavy after the spotting after the D&C? I spotted for 4 days (with cramping) after the surgery (I had a polyp, fibroid size of a 10 week pregnancy and lining that concerned him for Cancer - which it is not Cancer, and a bubble), but then out of the blue it got heavy as heck! I even was on my "dummy pills" for my period. When I went in for my post op last week I was soaked!(I was like that 2 weeks before the surgery since I called my dr. due to hemorrhaging). He did exam me once again, and did something I can't remember. And if I still am in a week - call him. Well I haven't bled lately but having on and off again odd cramping. I think I over did my recovery or something. I'm scared. Any advice? thanks!

Re: Bleeding heavy after a D&C?
I had a D&C in 2009 I think... I bled pretty heavy after. Then my period was light and beautiful for ten whole months before things went south for me. I didn't really have any cramping after the D&C. I was surprised at how good I felt. Everyone is different though.
Keep an eye oh things and keep good track of when you are bleeding and how much. If you have concerns just remember your doc gets paid loads of money. Lol you can bug him even if you aren't bleeding. If the cramping concerns you give him a call! Lol Better safe than sorry right...

Re: Bleeding heavy after a D&C?
I had a D&C with hysteroscopy last year. My doctor said I should be back in the game at 2 weeks post op however at 2 weeks I was far from back in the game as I felt terrible! I wasn't bleeding a lot however I was bleeding and it seemed to increase with slight activity. I was reliant on pain pills too as I had a lot of cramping. I only had those for 2 weeks but could have used a refill.
We tend to minimize lesser invasive treatments however D&C is a surgical procedure. I think it depends what they do and in my case they did a lot of thinning and cutting all of which took time to heal. It took a couple of months till I felt normal however I am a bit older and have a low pain tolerance which did not help. You may have had a lot done too and need to take it easy a bit longer and allow your body the time it needs to heal.

Re: Bleeding heavy after a D&C?
I had a hysteroscopy, D&C and ablation on July 15 this year. That was a Friday. I called my doctor on Monday because I was bleeding. I was told it was normal. On Tuesday I called again, borderline hysteria. I was BLEEDING. I was soaking through a pad in less than an hour, which I found totally revolting, I hadn't used pads since I was about 14. I was really getting depressed because I was told by so many the D&C and the ablation would control my bleeding, making it so much lighter.
I won't say my doctor didn't believe me because she did. But she told me to come in the next day, Wednesday. OK, I did. She wanted to do a quick internal, I'm sure she thought oh a little post op blood, totally normal. I got undressed and when she came in, I apologized. I told her I was already sitting in a puddle of blood and I was embarrassed. She lifted the sheet, as I was putting my feet up, she almost had a look of shock on her face. She said oh no, you are almost hemorrhaging, you aren't going to live like this. Her surgery days are Friday. I was back in surgery on July 22nd, exactly 1 week later, having a full hysterectomy. I could not take the bleeding. I was truly getting so depressed and I'm not the depressive type. Best decision ever and I am so grateful to have a doctor that LISTENED to me. She didn't just dismiss me, which she could have. If you are still bleeding and it is at a point for discomfort for you, physically or mentally, call your doctor and really press the issue that you need relief, NOW. You don't need to live like that. As my doctor said "Men don't have to live with this, why do we as women? Especially after a certain point in our lives." (I'm 50 and long done even thinking about making babies!)
Best of luck. I truly hope you are feeling better soon.

Re: Bleeding heavy after a D&C?
I had a hysteroscopy and D & C in June and was told I would be right in a day or two....er NO!!!
I was on strong pin killers and felt terrible. I had trapped wind which was really painful. All this was nothing in comparison to the period. I was given tranexamic acid to stem the blood loss and clots. It didn't work. It so was heavy and so painful I ended up in ED and given regular endone which eventually worked. They did a CT and an internal to check for infection. Turns out the pain was "likely" due my uretas being squashed which was in turn causing me kidney pain.
I have a very large fibroid and go for a TAH on 28th of this month. I look pregnant and am constantly feeling uncomfortable or in pain and exhausted. Any physical activity wears me out. I have been convinced by my hubby to listen to my body and do nothing if I need to or take pain killers if I need to. That was a struggle as I am usually up and about and am obviously as stubborn as.
Well, after that rant I think my point is....trust in yourself and listen to your body. At the end of the day only you know how you feel and if you don't get results from one doctor, go to another one. Don't settle with second best. Also don't be scared...come on here and post like you did and we will help to allay your fears.

Re: Bleeding heavy after a D&C?
Here's an update since I was here (sorry it's long!) -- I have been still bleeding heavy when I get my period since the D&C. Plus on top of that, I had been experiencing pelvic pains too that makes me cry at home, at work etc. So when I went to my ob (each week last month!) I had an infection! He ordered blood work - turned out my white blood count was high! So he put me on a no chocolate, no chips/bread diet for a week due to the antibiotics he gave me. (I was like "Noooo!!" but by day 2 I was comfortable), plus gave me a new birth control pill and watch my period in October. Infection went away, but the pain continued so he sent me to the ER (happened to cry in his arms) and all they did was blood work, eternal and external ultrasound (turned out to be a mass in my uterus and the fibroid) and sent me home 8 hrs later with a pain pill.
I saw him last week on an update on it - still at it. He may think it's a bladder issue so he is ordering a MRI and see a urologist. Plus my period was in early stages and began to be bad again by the end of the week (went through 30 pads in one day!)! I called him and he called me back and gave me something to help, but apparently it helped my back pain I had last night. He says to call him Monday to see how the pill worked. But he still wants me to get the MRI because the next step will be a hysterectomy if anything shows up on the MRI (he's doing everything he can before ruling it out) have been clotting blood non stop when I get my period since and before the D&C. What's wrong with my body (I'm 37) and rejecting 3 types of birth control pills and continue to bleed pre and post D&C. Anyone experience that? I still am scared.. <3
