Started HRT Today !

Hello Ladies, Just a quick post to let ya know how I'm doing. Today I went for my 4 week post op and my wonderful, caring and compassionate Dr. said that everything looks GREAT :woot: . He did the internal -but before he did I told him that I was VERY scared . He was great..I had no pain only a little cramping after the exam. He asked how everything was going and I told him about my sleeping or lack of -issues and some night sweets. He gave me an for Estradiol 1mg once daily. he said that this should help - he said he wanted to see me in 4 weeks . But ... I could return to work on Jan 2nd...
I am curious to know how many sisters have been prescribed Estradiol and what they think of it... positive or negative I would like to here... And he did say that I could resume "normal" activities.... . Thanks to all my sisters for your support and prayers.. God Bless Becky

Hi Becky!

It sounds like your recovery is going well! It's pretty common to have sleep issues post-op. Hopefully the estradiol you have been prescribed will help. Have you had a look at the Post-Op article titled Dealing With Post-Op Insomnia? Maybe some of those tips will be helpful, too.

Estradiol is a bio-identical estrogen, which means it is made to be an exact duplicate of the estradiol your ovaries made. The ovaries also produce two other kinds of estrogen--estriol and estrone--but many of us do fine on estradiol alone. I think it's a good choice. Estradiol is the estrogen I am using, but mine is in the form of a patch called Vivelle Dot. I opted for the patch because I really don't like to take pills.

Did your doctor delay the start of hormones because of your endometriosis? Some do, some don't. There is the chance that any endo left at the time of your surgery can grow and cause problems. That's why some, but not all, doctors will prescribe progesterone (or progestin, a synthetic progesterone) either with or without estrogen. Progesterone (or progestin) can help counteract the effects of estrogen on endo. It's something you can discuss with your doctor at your next appointment. Not all women with endo continue to have problems post-op but some do, which is why I think it's best to be aware of that possibility.

I hope you continue to do well and that your insomnia will resolve soon.

s to you!
