Need help with painful BMs
3 weeks post op I have started having hard stools which are impacted and very painful to pass. I had to resort to a Glycerin suppository yesterday, but the BM was excruciating. I have taken a stool softener since my surgery and have had fiber and lots of water in my diet, but for some reason, I have hit a "wall." I don't want to take another Glycerin suppository today and have another traumatic BM, but I don't know what else to do. Any suggestions for fast relief would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Constipation
I tried the Milk of Magnesia last night and this summer went from "hard to pass" to the other extreme. It wasn't watery diarrhea but very, very loose, runny stools. Why can't I find a happy medium??? At least I feel better today because I'm cleaned out.

I had that same problem the first time I took it! You took too much. Try 1 tbsp. (the min dose first). If you need more make the next dose .5 tbsp. larger than the last amount you took. Up to the max of 4 tbsp. Take it daily until you can go on your own. That is what my dr told me.

Milk of Magnesia. Its the only thing that works. Take daily until you can go on your own. According to my dr -- that may not be until closer to the 6 wk mark.

I also recommend Milk of Magnesia, worked like a charm for me. Definitely start with the lowest dose. I remember one sister here who's DH brought her the dose and she was in the bathroom the entire night. Turns out he brought her the maximum amount. She was not happy! He of course was just trying to help.
My doctor had me take Colace in the hospital daily and told me to take MOM if I had any problems. So it is doctor recommended.
Good luck!

That was me!! LOL!! Not fun and I went for 2 days straight. It was almost like bowel prep all over again but not nearly as bad. My bowel prep day was horrific!

Aha!!!! I remember now! I felt so bad for you because I remembered being one of the ones who recommended MOM! Now I know to add the part about taking the lowest dose, HA HA HA!
But boy does that stuff work! I think I'm going to use it on my kitchen drain next time it gets stopped up!
