Stairs at home?

Hi All,
My op isn't for a few weeks but talking to my mum on the weekend she's really got me worried that when I come home I won't be able to manage the stairs at all. I have to at least once 'cos thats where my comfy bed and bathroom are! Anyone else conquered this one? Any advice will be muchely appreciated.

cheers,

Stairs at home?

This is one reason I'm not upset about my dh and I moving our room to the den. Then at least I'll have 2 steps up to the living room from the foyer and two down to the bedroom.. much better then the 12 I'll have to manage to get to the shower!!! I'm sure it would be fine as long as you take them slowly.. someone mentioned going up them backwards.. I'm a clutz doing anything backwards so I would probably bust my tail but hey.. if it works!!!!

Stairs at home?

Hi, I had my TAH on June 7th . I also have a 2 story home. My DR suggested that I stay in 1 room I choose, upstairs or downstairs. Since my bedroom and bathroom is upstairs, I stayed upstairs for my 1st week and on my 2nd week I planned my trips downstairs. I get ready in the morning when I wake up and I go downstairs (carefully and slowly) for the day and I just camp out on the couch until it's bedtime. I have to admit I got carried away one day, I went up and down 4 times that day and I sure paid for it big time. I was in pain all night and miserable. I will never do that again for the next 6-8 weeks.

Stairs at home?

Thanks 4mysunshine, this is great info. I was sort of planning to do this but mum said i might not make it upstairs in the first week!! I was horrified 'cos I'd been planning on hibernating upstairs for a few days before venturing out too far. Its winter here and too cold to go walking outside much anyway. Hope your healing's going well and thanks again,

Stairs at home?

When I came home from my TAH/BSO, I didn't have any trouble with the stairs. I had to take them slowly, but I could do it quite easily. This surprised me, but I was glad to be able to make it to my bed.

Stairs at home?

Our bathroom and my bedroom were on the second floor of my home. I spent most of my days downstairs with family rather than upstairs alone in my bedroom, so I had to climb upstairs to the bathroom several times a day and had no problems with it.

I wouldn't recommend going up or down the stairs backwards as you could lose your balance.

I called the docs office yesteday and she told me about the step thing...I have to go up four steps to get in my house..so...that is gonna be a clincher but she said as long as I took it very slow and careful I would be ok as long as I want going up and down them all day I would be ok..she did stay for the first week i shouldnt try to do any steps at all.

Stairs at home?

I have a 2 story home, and I too was worried about that issue. My dr gave me the okay to walk them as long as I took it slow. And I've been walking them since day one.

you should be fine. just take them slow. the more you move, the faster you'll feel better.

I sure hope I can do steps. Otherwise I won't be able to get into my house! We live at the beach and most of the houses (including mine) are up on stilts.
