bowl prep question

I have never done this before and am worried. I took the pill at 2:30, no bowl movement yet. I haven't had any food today. Should i just start drinking the drink?

Re: bowl prep question

You do not say what "the drink" is. Typically the doctor's office would give specific instructions for when they want you to take it. If you are talking about magnesium citrate it may act very quickly or take a while but either way drinking lots of water or other clear liquids is a good idea both to help the medicine work and to prevent dehydration. You may want to check your pre-op instructions again to see if they specify. Hope this helps. There may be other ladies here who would have more/better information. Praying for an uneventful surgery and a quick recovery.

Re: bowl prep question

The doctors office never gave me instructions. The pharmacist just told me to take the pill and then after i have a bowl movement to drink the halflytely drink.

Re: bowl prep question

I'd call the pharmacy and tell them your situation, or call your dr.'s answering service. My dr. always ordered me to do two enema's at home the night before my surgery. Bowel movements were never a problem when I was instructed to use those.... Good luck to you! I would really call if you haven't had a bowel movement yet...if you have surgery tomorrow and you dr. has ordered a bowel prep he/she wants you to be cleaned out for surgery.

Re: bowl prep question

Hang in there. Not much longer, and it'll be over. Just concentrate on drinking enough liquids and getting the halflytely down. One thing at a time helps keep reality from being so hard, I think.
