Kept ovaries but getting hot & cold flushes *children mentioned*

hi, I'm a bit confused. I had emergency c-section/hysterectomy on 2nd july and also bladder surgery. I was very sick and had total blood transfusion twice over.

now I'm home, second day, and I've been getting hot flushes and also cold ones but mostly hot ones. sometimes sweat but mostly just hot flush. I'm also getting a lot of headaches but not sure if that's down to not drinking enough water.

I had my whole womb removed and all my cervix but my ovaries and tubes are still there and obgyn said they looked fine.

I have read that sometimes, if blood flow is interupted to ovaries, that they can take some time post surgery to kick in and you can get meno like symptoms - is this correct?

I asked them at the hospital if this was likely but they said they very much doubted it as blood flow was not interupted long enough for that possibility so am wondering if a) I am getting those symptoms due to temporary menopuse and b) should I just wait for things to settle down or mention to gp at next visit? also do you get 'cold' flushes as well as I thought that was odd.. I was in bed under quilt and just so cold was shaking.. it woke me up at lunchtime and wasn't that cold outside but I just was so darn cold.. after a while I was starting to get very hot so can't get the temp right... wondering if symptoms might be down to blood transusion/scale of surgery etc.. body just adjusting but hoping I'm not having meno like symptoms? any advice appreciated.

Yes, you can have menopause symptoms if you kept your ovaries, because the body is having to adjust to the removal of organs that were key to the ovaries. The ovaries sometimes go to sleep for a little while, so it may take a few weeks to months for them to awaken. You are still early post op , so you can give it some time for the hormones to try to balance. Your body is also trying to heal and adjust to the meds that you were given for the surgery. I have found that time has a way of healing.

I get chills following my hot flashes so this is not unusual for this to happen. You might write down a list of things you want to tell your doctor when you go for your appt., including how you have been feeling.

I have found it helps to dress cool, drink lots of cold water, use a fan at night to sleep, avoid caffiene, hot drinks, alcohol, and sugar to keep hot flashes down and manageable.
