33 having HYSTER in 45 days... What do I expect

I have been living with severe endomitrosis for 20 yrs. The last option is a hysterestomy. I have no idea what to expect. I need to know everything from how long will I be in the hospital to what kind of recovery time frame am I looking at. Can anyone please share their personal experiences with me. My biggest fear is pushing people away with crazy mood swings. I know a strong support group is important but I would like to also prepare then for what is in store. For me there is no such thing as too much information.

There are a lot of personal experiences to be had here -- but there are many different types of hysterectomy procedures (different surgeries), and for any given type of surgery there are a whole range of outcomes depending on what exactly the surgeon has to deal with, what kind of shape you're in going into the surgery, how experienced and skilled your surgeon is, how good your aftercare is, etc. Your surgeon can tell you what type of surgery you'll be having, exactly what that involves and what will be done, and what the typical recovery time is in his/her experience...then, once you know the type of surgery, women here who have had that procedure and perhaps also some of the same issues you're dealing with can tell you what their experiences were like.

I understand your fears. The good thing is you have a little time to prepare. THis site is wonderful I'm sure you will find comfort in your journey here. I agree with Myotis write down all your questions and concerns and ask your doctor. review the pre-op site here for questions you might not know to ask. It's been my experience that knowledge is power and calms the anxiety.
