hhhmmm.... monthly cycle beginning

I am scheduled for my vaginal hysterectomy on Thursday and my period is starting today. Will they be able to perform the hysterctomy?

Yes, just let them know when you go into prep for the surgery that you are having your period. It shouldn't hold up the show.

Because I'm so irregular, I asked the surgeon's nurse the same question. She assured me it would be no problem...happens all the time.

I know -- it's exciting knowing that this is my last one EVER! It's like I'm already prepared to answer the question of "Do you have any tampons?" after surgery! Sorry, FRESH out for LIFE! What a great feeling!

My periods have been so irregular and wierd also. I never knew when I was going to start.

Almost over with!!!!!!

This happened to me, even after I'd had a period two weeks prior to that. I guess this is pretty common. Make sure you tell the nurse when you check in for your surgery. They will want you to strip down under the gown. This way you can ask for disposable undies and a pad.

Just so you know, after your surgery you wont be allowed to use any tampons for any bleeding you might have ( some do bleed after sugery and spot for few weeks ) so make sure you have some pads at home just in case you have to use them. Best of luck to you!

I did keep a few pads around after surgery in case I needed them, which I did not. I always smile now when I pass the "feminine supplies" aisle in the grocery store. It took several weeks for me to find all my hiding places for tampons and happily throw them out.

It would be wise to call and let your doctor know. Typically, starting your period is not a problem. Many of us have gone into surgery bleeding. However, for a few ladies it has been an issue, especially if anemia is involved, so it is best to let your doctor know right away, just in case!

Best wishes to you this week!
